luckily nothing got fried this time around!

I took the morning off. With the storm, i was afraid i was going to have a powerout and lose whatever progress on the project i'd be working on.

The last time there was a bad thunder and lightning combo I rolled out of bed at 2:30 to unplug my laptop and my wii. Its not always, but if its on my mind I do it. I also sometimes unplug them once I'm done with them regardless of how the weather is.

It is a good habit to get into. Vampire power loss and all that.

When a big storm comes through, the NAS and gaming pc get unplugged, everything else it depends on how big. Most others are easily and cheaply replaced, but until I get another backup, the NAS is damn near invaluable. I did lose my launch Gamecube to a storm several years ago.

That is what i fear. A gamecube i could replace pretty easy but a chipped saturn would be a little bit of work.

I lost a full computer back in 03. Fried the motherboard and powersupply. I was due for a new one, but it still sucked.

I think i'm going to get a couple more surge protectors. My collection has grown and the ammount of things plugged in has as well.

That's probably a good idea to unplug them. I should do that more often. I lost a VCR recently that got short circuited when the power company was doing some maintenance and shorted out the neighborhood.

I'd actually be more concerned about something like that. There really aren't thunder storms here in Seattle.

Not directly related to post, but I work in Philly and it was quite the experience getting in at 8am this morning.

Yes it was unbelievable!! I live in Wayne right outside of Philly and it was pitch black, non stop thunder and lightening... it was like a war movie where bombs are continuously exploding around you. I loved it!

I always forget to unplug anything during a storm, I do have them all plugged into pretty heavy duty surge protectors, but if there is any storm I feel like I got lucky with it was this one.

My fancy pants surge protector is claiming that the outlets in this house I just moved into have no ground connections, so now I'm super nervous about being away from home during a thunder storm, which has happened twice already. I mean I've got a $1200 PC sitting here, ready to be fried.

Meanwhile, I am impressed at how many people live in the Philadelphia region. I wonder how many of us there are? I know I live in the suburbs now (yuck), but I was born in Olney (Western/North Philly) and lived in Northeast Philly later in life before settling out this way.

I'm in Missouri; we've got a couple violent storms every summer. And like Nickfil, even though everything is on surge protectors, I still unplug the TV's, computer, and consoles.

I lost my first PC to a storm; actually through the phone line, to my modem, through the serial port, into the motherboard. After that incident, even the phone line is through the surge protector now.

But yeah, everything was surged protected luckily...except my newly returned from Nintendo Wii that I had just soft-modded. Took it out during a brown out.

But happy ending! Thought it was a goner, but did some research and found out it could have been a fuse in the power supply. So I opened it up and put in a new fuse...and it worked!

I don't know if this is the same thing, but a few years ago I remember a huge snowstorm in the Northeast. In our area there was actually a lot of serious thunder and lightenig that went along with it. I swore at that time that it was the end of the world. Quite a show!
