So i woke up to find philadelphia suffering from a thunder and lighning storm. I unplugged my computer and tv/consoles in an effort to protect them just in case.
I was curious if anyone else does this or if i'm totally neurotic. Has anyone lost a console or computer to lightning?
thunder. lightning.
Re: thunder. lightning.
here in utah there have been thunder storms/lightning lately and i do the same thing. i just don't trust leaving them plugged in while there's lightning.

It's understandable since lightning could easily cause a surge in power. However you really should have surge protectors installed anyway. Any fluctuation in voltage no matter how minor can cause irreparable damage to electronics.

I do have them plugged into protectors, I'm just a little extra careful.Niode wrote:It's understandable since lightning could easily cause a surge in power. When a big storm comes through, the NAS and gaming pc get unplugged, everything else it depends on how big. Most others are easily and cheaply replaced, but until I get another backup, the NAS is damn near invaluable.
I did lose my launch Gamecube to a storm several years ago.

The last time there was a bad thunder and lightning combo I rolled out of bed at 2:30 to unplug my laptop and my wii. Its not always, but if its on my mind I do it. I also sometimes unplug them once I'm done with them regardless of how the weather is.

Not directly related to post, but I work in Philly and it was quite the experience getting in at 8am this morning.

You know I'm in the D.C. area and I slept through it but my sister said there was a pretty crazy storm around 6:30am, so maybe it passed through my area on the way up to philly.
