My thoughts. Meanwhile, TF2 continues to get tons of updates while being sold for $10 at times. Makes perfect sense....

That video is AMAZING! The duke nukem forever part with the girl crying made me laugh my ass off.
The video defiantly is how a feel about it. The same shit happened with Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 except this is even worse.

I just bought left 4 dead 1 4 weeks ago, thinking it's a valve game, and like TF2 it's going to be supported for months,
but it seams valve cares more about the 360 demographic now, who don't mind buying a sequel every year (i'm looking at you call of duty).

btw I also joined the steam group to boycott the game.

I am taking a wait and see with this one. I am definitely not opposed to buying #2 as I am thoroughly enjoying the 1st one, but it does seem kind of soon considering their previous track records in development. Was the game just going to be really huge so they decided to chop it in 1/2 and make 2 games out of it?

What I am really wondering is that if Valve held off on releasing the game for another 1.5 years, would there be as much outrage about it? Does just the thought of the 2nd game being mostly (or maybe completely) done before the release of the original cause the buyer to feel some sense of entitlement to that content?

Valve is one of my favorite developers and I think it's awesome how they support their games with new content and I hope that they will continue the tradition with L4D1 even after #2 is released as they say they plan to.

I really got my money's worth out of the first one so I will be buying the next one, just maybe not at release. Maybe I can take advantage of one of their many Steam sales...

so many good things in this post.

1. Not going to knee jerk react. going to wait and see the final game in action.
2. Valve said they would continue to update l4d1. (Additionally all mod projects will be compatible for both systems)
3. Got your money's worth the first time around, whos to say you aren't the second time around?
4. If you don't think it is worth full price, buy it in a steam sale.

And may i just say- has valve ever given you a reason not to trust them? Just wait and see how it plays out.

Valve has responded to all of the complaints saying that this is a different game with enough content to be a full game. They intend to continue adding to the original Left4Dead, so they don't want you to get your panties in a twist just because a sequel is coming out and you're afraid they will abandon add-on developments for the first game.

Time will tell.

I am still disappointed in them. I mean we wait what 8 years for TF2 and they take out some of the core components, then this... I am now curious as to if the two will be compatible - ie if you own 1 and buy 2 you can import all of the stages. If so, I will just eat the cost and go for it. Still makes me wonder where Episode 3 is.

I've never run a game company so i can't speak to how long things should take. Thing is valve wants to make a good product every time they can. I don't think they will add to the half life universe if they don't have anything to say. HL is their baby. Episode 3 will come out when it comes out. It isn't halo or call of duty (thank god) so they don't really crank things out. I'm sure that kinda goes without saying though.

It is kinda weird that "where is episode 3" is kinda the mantra of disgruntled fans lately. I get that people want it, but sometimes the creative process leads down different roads. I don't think that people get that and end up feeling like they've been betrayed somehow by valve when they come out with something else. I'm kinda quoting neil gaiman here, but Valve is not your bitch.

This is a useful thing to know, perhaps a useful thing to point out when you find yourself thinking that possibly Valve is, indeed, your bitch, and should be out there working on what you want to play right now.

People are not machines. Writers, artists and programmers aren't machines.

People are complaining about Valve doing other things than making the games they want to play as if buying the first game in the series was a contract with them: that they would pay over your X dollars, and Valve for it's part would spend every waking hour until the series was done, making the rest of the games for them.

No such contract existed. You were paying your X dollars for the game you were playing, and I assume that people enjoyed it because they want to know what happens next.

It seems to me that the biggest problem with series games is that either players complain that the games used to be good but that somewhere in the effort to get out a game every year the quality has fallen off, or they complain that the games, although maintaining quality, aren't coming out on time.

For me, I would rather play a good game, from a contented author. I don't really care what it takes to produce that.

Not really directed at you fast, but at valve's whiny fanbase. heh.
