Question regarding the new PSP...

Post by newt42 »

I know that the PSP Go will not have UMD support, but will the newer games scheduled for release also be available on UMD discs, or are they ONLY going to be for the PSP Go?
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

From what I heard, they will be available in both formats depending on the game. No timetable was given for how long they will do this for though.

Seems they will keep the UMDs because they want to keep both products on the market. They are still to say what can people who have UMD collections do to play them on their new PSP Go. Even if I bought UMDs I would definetly go with using ISOS because of loading times. My first PSP's drive died back then when you still had to load an ISO with a UMD in the drive.
Consoles: NES, Famicom, SNES, GC, GB DMG, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, DSI XL, N64, VBoy, NDS, 3DSXL, Wii, SMS, GEN+CD+32X, GG, SAT, DC, WS, WS Color, NGPC, XBOX, 360, PS1, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3, 3DO, CD-I, NGCD, Actionmax, TG16+CD, TE, PCE-DUO, Odyssey2, Playdia, 2600, Lynx & JAG.

They are currently working a system were one possibility would be you cut out the UPC mail it in and get the download code or something like that. The PSP GO! will almost certainly fail, it brings nothing new to the PSP platform aside taking away the ability to own games. I don't think people are ready for a download only console. It worked for Apple because a iPhone is more way more than just a console.

I agree. There are plenty of old fart console owners like me that don't want to pay for downloads. I can't put downloads on my shelf. And try explaining to a parent that little Timmy has to have net access to get games for his portable.

That being said, MS, Sony, and Nintendo all seem to be doing well with their online stores, right?

I don't know, the lack of an UMD is very appealing to me. Faster load times, improved battery life, lighter, etc. Plus, the biggest advantage of going UMD-less is that I don't have to carry around UMDs when I travel. When I'm the on the bus or train, I don't want to be fumbling with a few UMDs in my pocket. That's always been the downside with handhelds. I had to commit to one game when going out and had to deal with it if I changed my mind. As long as I don't have to have internet access in order to just sign in to play the play game, a-la Spore, I'm all for it. I'm planning on getting a PSPGo sometime actually.

I've had those benefits since I bought my psp years ago running isos.

No retailer support due to lack of hard software, memory stick micro only, need to buy all new peripherals (again), smaller screen, non-removable battery, double manufacturing cost markup, and no UMD equals fail.

Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS
