...a bad habit of dropping saves? Often I will start up the game, only to find all my saves gone. Some times the saves will drop after a day or two, and other times they will last for months. What is up with that?

Most likely your save battery is dead...

My copy of Super Mario World is the same way, saves just disappear whenever they feel like it. Of course, that thing is probably 17 years old, so it's dying of age.

You can do it pretty easily with a lithium battery (think watch battery) from the store and a soldering iron. Hardest part for me was getting the case open until I got the right bit to open them.BoringSupreez wrote:Does Nintendo still replace save game batteries for SNES?Reverend wrote:Most likely your save battery is dead...

You can get the security bit needed for a few bucks off eBay. As for replacing the battery, there's plenty of guides on the net that will walk you threw it. If this is all you're using it for, than a $15 solder iron from Radio Shack will be perfect. However, last time I was in Radio Shit I noticed they charge something like $5 or $6 for a CR2032 battery, which is a total rip if you ask me. You can usually get them for less than a buck each if you buy them in bulk from eBay, and by bulk I only mean 10, 15 or 20. It's worth having many of these on hand since they're so widely used, and because of how much more expensive they are if you buy them individually.

Yeah, the CR2032 is used in the Saturn, two for the Dreamcast VMU, SNES batteries, and the 3DO internal battery (that one's a pain to replace).

PS2, Dreamcast system, computers, some remotes, Genesis carts, N64 carts, etc.
edit: Dreamcast uses a rechargeable coin battery. Looks like a direct replacement is ML2020/G1AN.
