Yeah, man. Super lame. Oh well, the guy's thread gets more replies in its statistics, and I'm two posts closer to being 64-bit. Not that anyone really pays attention to such things.

My feeling when it comes to the Genesis is that it sounds unique. If you listen to any Genny track and you can usually pick out the fact that it's from the Genesis. With the SNES a lot of the music sounds more "realistic". Which leads to some very awesome tunes, like the entire FF6 soundtrack (complete with an opera).

I can't get over the pure epicness of The Sword of Vermillion's music. Sonic 1 and 2 also are amazing when it comes to sound.

Loved my Mega Drive while growing up, but the Super NES had Mega Man X. Can't really compete with that.
Re: Game music- SNES or Genesis?
I love the more grungy sound most Genesis games, it sounds so awesome, like it's about to kick some ass! Things on the SNES have a sort of soft feeling, which works for some games, but for the most part I like the "Mrowm mrowm mrowm" of the Genesis.
Re: Game music- SNES or Genesis?
Old and tired debate. They both excel in their respective musical genres, and fail in others. It pretty much just comes down to what kind of music you like.
When it comes to sound effects though, Genesis wins hands down. While it may have some static, at least it resembles the action on screen, whereas SNES's sound effects are almost always horribly inappropriate for whats going on. They tend to sound more like oddly timed musical instruments rather than noises.

They do both have strengths. I happen to love the SNES' richer sound palatte for music, though. It made epic games like Square RPGs that much more epic at the time. Add in the music from games like Super Metroid, Zelda 3, Earthbound, Castlevania 4 ... just stellar.
