I saw an article on this kid before he graduated, saying he was a genius and such. His parents denied he was a genius, saying he only saw things quite simply and they didn't pressure him to go to college.
Fine, say he's not a genius but at the very least he's a prodigy. And here's an article that shows a bit more how his parents feel about his education:

I think it is fabulous for him to achieve so much and from the article it sounds like he has plenty of fun activities... For him to say video games are a waste of time is like hearing a hardcore sports fan say that ballet is a waste of time. Just because he's young, a male, and obviously gifted doesn't mean his preference matters more.
I guess the interviewer looked at him and asked, "So, I bet you play video games!" and he responds "I feel they are a waste of time." Sure it sounds harsh, but c'mon, most people waste a lot of time and effort that could be used for better things. He's not putting people down with that statement, either. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders. Hopefully he won't crash and burn later with suicidal disorders, drug abuse, and/or serial killing!
