I would highly recommend getting a Sega Saturn a great retro console with loads of great classics like Panzer Dragoon, Bug!, Burning Rangers, and Nights into Dreams just to name a few.. Also, check out racketboy articles will provide you with plenty of info to answer your questions and point you into the right direction...

Even if you don't want to mod it, there's still tons of great games you can get dirt cheap, specially japanese versions. I mean, Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2 for the Saturn are 2 good enogh reasons to buy the console, and you can get both for about $6 in really good condition.

Um, Didn't they go bankrupt, and are no longer making cars....
OOOOHHHHH, THAT Saturn....Well I think RyaNtheSlayA may have a Saturn available, alas it seems that it is doing it's best 360 impression.
R.I.P. RyaNtheSlayA's Saturn, it is a sad day when another one bites it.
That said, compared to PS1's the Saturns are tanks. You would enjoy the system, other then the handful of collectors favorites there are a ton of great cheap games...Astal is first on that list.
