What is the best direction when it comes to 360 arcade stiks

Post by Kevman »

With SF4 in my collection currently and Blazblue and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on it's way I believe it's time for me to buy an arcade stick. The only problem is most are too expensive. I was wondering if anybody knows of any arcade sticks with "bang to the buck". I'm not looking for the best stick in the world, but nothing crappy either.

~Thanks again

I think its hori that makes a nice stick for under 100 bucks but I highly recommend going for the tournament stick for SF4 I had one for a few weeks on my ps3 beautiful well built stick 150 sure but worth it! I'm thinking of getting another stick to cause I have blazblue on the way and kinda want SF4 again as i barely played it on my ps3.

I would also recommend the Hori sticks as well if ya want to go cheaper but also have great build quality. I recommend the SF IV TE Stick I use it all the time best one I have ever used and own. It may be expensive but well worth it. I prefer it over the Hori sticks all the time. I can't wait for KOF XII, Tekken 6, BlazBlue, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to get more miles beyond SF IV with it... 8)

I always liked the atari 2600 joystick
those seemed cheap and reliable, I love the rubber around it

It's not cheap per se, but it's less expensive than the TE - the Madcatz standard SF4 stick retails for £70 and is a solid stick, and appears to have a better build quality than the HORI EX4, which I also own. I also have a hori Fightsick 3 for PS3, which is very similar to the EX4 on Xbox, and it broke... too many Shorukens - I don't know about you but I'd rather pay a little more (ok - double the price for the Madcatz Standard SF4) for a stick that will last than have to replace sticks due to breakage.

I'm not playing in street fighter tournaments or anything like that... but...

with sticks my impression is you get what you pay for. Often like computers, there is a point where the price goes up incredibly high for a marginal increase in quality. Now- the question is do you need this increase in quality? I can't answer that for you. But if this is your first stick i would recommend getting something midrange. Not super low end like that retarded xbla stick that barely had a face on it and suction cup feet. Don't go with that. Simiarly, you probably shouldn't go super high end and get the 200 dollar street fighter tournament stick.

thats a good stick. All buttons. Good build.

thats the stick i have. I have no complaints with it. It lacks some features that the SF stick does, but it isn't bad at all. Perhaps it has gotten a bit dated though.

The idea here is that if you get these sticks and then love them, you can always upgrade later if need be. Chances are if you become a fighter enthusiast you won't lament having that first stick around. You can always use it for people coming over and playing with you. That way when your buddy spills his drink on his stick it isn't on your 200-300 dollar hardware.

plus- a lot of people actually upgrade their old sticks themselves with new parts. Might be something to try if you get sick of the stick you have and want a cheap way to upgrade.

If you buy the Standard Edition SF:IV stick I suggest you put in some arcade Sanwa parts, as the stick comes with knock-off Sanwa's all you have to do is simply switch them out. No complex soldering etc... required.

The Tournament Edition stick on the other hand is one of the most sturdy and durable pieces of home arcade hardware ever built.
