So why do you retro-game?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Most modern games are either an open world "adventure" game or an FPS. Whatever happened to 2D platformers, 2D fighters, or turn-based RPGs? What was so wrong with them that no one makes these games anymore?

Too poor for modern stuff.

Because I couldn't have all the games I wanted as a kid. Grew up in the "golden" generation of gamers. I consider "golden" generation people who got into games as a little kid on NES then were bombarded around age 10-15 with arguably the best console generation of all time : SNES vs Genesis. Reading gaming mags (EGM R.I.P) then was so evil because you knew how many interesting games you were missing out on. Unacceptable!

I was always into the most subversive gaming possible too. My mom wouldn't let me get a Turbo Duo because she knew NEC has no business in gaming. Sega was my second choice (shame)! Because of this there were tons of Duo and underground Sega games I read about back in the day but never got. My most prized game is the Japanese version of SF2:CE for PC:Engine. For years I kept waiting for it to come out in America. 11 years later I went all the way to Japan to go get the damn thing! Now that is persistence!

Because there are amazing old games like X-COM or Robotron.. They may be old but they are still really fun and can compete with modern games. Why would I choose new over old when I can have both?

Its all about the gameplay. Being 10 years old and dreaming one day to have all those games, now it all came to reality and its very fulfilling.
