The End of The Analog Era.
So all Analog TV broadcasts officially end this upcoming week on June 12th, so I'm wondering, are you going to see the end of an era?
If so ho are you going to watch it? A GameGear, the Turbo Express in your closet, an old portable set, that junker with rabbit ears in the garage, or just the living room/bedroom TV on an antenna?
I'm personally going to carry around my dad's old watchman when I'm out and about all next week, along with hooking an antenna up to my standard def. TV for the remainder of this week up until the shutoff on the 12th.
Anyway what are you guy's thoughts on the matter are you going to see it off with a bang like Spike and Tom, or do you simply not care and hope to see it end with a whimper?
(For those of you who aren't very Anime/Cartoon Network literate Spike and Tom are two famous characters from Cowboy Bebop and Toonami respectively, who while sharing the same voice actor (Steven Jay Blum) also share the same infamous last line of 'Bang' in their series' final episodes.)

Cool is it a teeny 13'' or less screen, or a bigger antique set?

Re: The End of The Analog Era.

I used to have my Genesis hooked up to this but now its hooked up to the 32" CRT along with my other non HD systems. When I have more space I want to make a stand alone Atari 2600 area with it. The wood grain on the sides of the TV set seems to be about the same as a 2600.

Re: The End of The Analog Era.
so long as you have a tv that can receive UHF signals it's not really that different...

Digital signals require an ATSC Digital Tuner not a VHF/UHF NTSC Analog Tuner.vejita wrote:so long as you have a tv that can receive UHF signals it's not really that different...
Or if you're talking about how antenna isn't any different from cable, then I'll have to say that to me it's a completely different experience from the norm. as I've had cable all my life I've only ever seen a few hours of antenna TV. It's the weird sense of actually getting the dial tuned right, or the antenna in a good spot, and that sense of exploration and gratification that comes with it. I haven't gone below channel 29 in years for anything other than FOX or NBC, so this is more of an exploration into an experience that neither I or any other subsequent generation will ever have a chance at again, than simply an average happening.
The old-school analog tech used for this stuff really interests and fascinates, me so I'm just trying to get a chance to see the last great display of an amazing technical achievement of enormous technological, cultural and historical significance.

Re: The End of The Analog Era.
Okay, I see your point on significance.... I know what its like to be grateful for good reception and I used to live on the magical 2-4 channels.. whenever we got to watch Red Dwarf it was a special night. Damn, now I'm nostalgic for once having that seldom gratification.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Digital signals require an ATSC Digital Tuner not a VHF/UHF NTSC Analog Tuner.vejita wrote:so long as you have a tv that can receive UHF signals it's not really that different...
