The blue discs are CDs and were used at the beginning of the PS2 to cut costs on games that simply didn't require all the space DVD could offer. You have to remember back when the PS2 first launched DVDs were still expensive to produce.

Yep, this basically sums it up... blue discs are CD's and other discs are DVD's...

CDs are blue, DVDs are silver and most of the time have this on the underside: you have to hold it up to the light just right.

In his second post further down tye page, he states that they make a horrible noise when they play, so I'm simply covering all the most common troubleshooting bases.
