The new Zelda 'concept' painting

Post by HellHammer »

So Miyamoto had a private meeting with some VIPs shortly after E3, where he gave away a bit more information regarding the new Zelda for Wii. As many of us know, there was a conceptual painting of Link, said to be much older looking standing back-to-back with an unknown woman in blue, shown at this presentation and even though everyone would want to see it, cameras and photo taking were not allowed.

But because people are inherently evil, someone took it upon themselves to covertly snap a photo of the painting against Miyamoto's wishes. Because the internet is evil, the photo made it's way onto it. And because I'm also occasionally evil and I love Zelda, you may view it now as well...

LINK!

Unfortunately, people are also crazy, so I can't verify that this is actually the painting, though Link's age and woman in blue are enough to convince me.

Personally, I wanna know when they're gonna take on other time periods, like steampunk Victorian or the Old West. Or maybe do one that flips between three different Hylian time periods: medieval (a la Link to the Past), Victorian (Steampunk-style), and modern-day.

I've always seen Hyrule as being an old island that sat a great distance from Europe, but slowly broke up and split into the islands that are now parts of different islands (the Galapagos, The United Kingdom, Hawaii and even the island of Manhattan). This plays into my idea of Hylian futures.

In Victorian Hyrule (which is a fictiticious part of The UK), Gannon is a land baron who seeks to combine the ancient powers of "The Triforce" with an experimental airship, but his adopted daughter Zelda seeks the help of the engineer apprentice Link to stop Gannon.

And in present-day Manhattan, the teenaged punk Link falls for the trendy cheerleader Zelda, unaware that both are part of an age-old prophecy that involves them, the hedonistic millionaire Alexander Gannondorf, and the latter's obsession with the ancient artifact known as "The Triforce".

That's a painting? I can't tell, it's too dark. But yet, not grimdark, if you know what I mean. Not enough skulls with spikes on them.

A steampunk styled Zelda I can see happening, though a VSF one would probably work better. A modern day Zelda is just daft. That is the day I lose faith in Nintendo. I know Miyamoto stated he can conceptualize it, but even in the furthest stretches of my mind I cannot see that working.

The image is floating around, but it is just a concept, we will have to wait until there is something more to make any sort of accurate assumptions. That said, I can see Nintendo pulling an Ocarina of Time remake. They know it would be easy money.

I honestly think Nintendo is smart enough to wait on the OoT remake.

Think about how many people they can convince to buy the next Nintendo console simply by saying "OoT remake in HD on Wii 2, and HD Super Mario, obviously".

How can you tell how old Link is in that painting? The quality is so shoddy that I can barely make out what is going on.

Hell, that doesn't have to be a woman in front of him, I see no evidence of boobs... it could be another guy given what we know.

And... are they in a forest? What the hell is that in the background?

Are we perhaps looking too deeply into the artistic merits of a painting that was captured with a bad cell-phone camera?
