I thought you might be interested to try this Amiga exclusive out called Ruff n Tumble; considering it runs on an Amiga 500 it features quite nice graphics

I haven't played Gunstar Heroes yet, but this should have some similarities to that and to Metal Slug (although this one emphasizes the platforming aspect a good bit more run n gun).
