The open button on the PS1

Post by newt42 »

So, closing the tray keeps on getting harder and harder to do. I have to slam it a few times for it to actually stay closed.

I fear of the day in which the tray dies, and never closes dispite my violent efforts. Is there a way to fix this, do I have to buy a new PS1, or do I not even have anything to worry about at all?
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

You could buy a broken ps1 and then just swap the case. Might save some money that way.

Is it an original PS1? My original PS1 had it's tray latch break too. I used a school book to keep it closed until I bought the PSone.

I think a little more, but PS1s have been exceedingly cheap since the PS2 is mostly backwards compatible(99% is good enough for me). So another PS1, with cables and controllers probably won't run you too much if you can't stand having it replaced. One thing though: do you have any idea what's happening to it? Is it the actual latch or is something else forcing it to open back up?
