Best Original Gameboy Games?

Post by Jrecee »

So I just found a cheap Super Gameboy player so I've finally started to play the old gameboy games I have. Staring at a tiny screen isn't something I do outside of sitting on a plane, so I finally have some incentive to start buying some gameboy games I missed.

I already Have:

Mario Land, Mario Land 2, Wario Land, Power Quest, and some crappy bugs bunny game

I plan to get:

Kirby's Dreamland 1 and 2, Kirby's Blockball, Metroid II, Wario Land 2, Donkey Kong land 1-3, Kid Dracula, Gargoyle's Quest.

Are there any awesome gameboy games I should be getting? I only have the original super gameboy so I can't get any "only for gameboy color" games. Also I don't really play rpgs or sports games. . .

I was obsessed with Wario Blast, which I played on my Super Gameboy. All of my friends had Bomberman and we would always have massive tournaments. Wario Blast was just as good, in my opinion, and we enjoyed the new look.

There is always Paper Boy and Tetris, which my fiance is obsessed with and can play for hours and hours without getting bored. I preferred Dr. Mario just because I was tired of Tetris.

Boy and his Blob was another of my favorites although I could never get far.

I recall owning a gameboy and about the only game I can remember
is Mario and Castlevania, I always thought castlevania is synonymous with the gameboy .

If you like Tetris , the original Tetris that was bundled with the original gameboy in my opinion is the best Tetris. still to this date in my opinion.

Mole Mania on the original Gameboy is one of the best puzzle/action games of all time. It is Shigeru Miyamoto's hidden gem, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Final Fantasy Legend 1-3 are pretty good RPGs
Great Greed is a fantastic RPG
Alfred Chicken is a decent platformer
Castlevania Adventures I&II are both fantastic - though the bosses were far easier than the stages
Castlevania Legends is quality aswell
Donkey Kong 94 is an excellent arcade platformer
Kid Icarus Myths and Monsters - if you can find it
Turok is a surprisingly decent title aswell
And you cannot forget the Pokemon titles.

I would stray from FF Adventure and grab Sword of Mana for the GBA instead - if you have access to something that plays GBA games ofcourse. It is the enhanced remake of the title, which is a Mana game anyway.

I used to have turok actually.

Donkey Kong 94 looks pretty good. I thought it was just a port of the arcade game but it looks like a lot more than that. I might check out one of the castlevanias although there's plenty of console castlevania games I haven't even played yet which I'll buy first (bloodlines). And, yeah, I don't play rpgs at all but maybe that'll help someone else looking for some gb games.

As far as the megaman games go, they look mostly like watered down ports of the nes games. I'm sure they have different level design and stuff but I've yet to even beat one megaman game and I've got Megaman Collection for PS2 and Megaman X collection for gamecube, so it'll probably be a while before I need anymore megaman games (maybe when I'm 90)
