Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
Re: Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
I just don't understand a lot of the fanfare of this project natal. So many reviews make it sound like the idea of motion control has never been tried until now. I know many people seem to not like the Wii, but you cannot argue that it is the first of its kind. Even if other companies have been working on the technology, the Wii was first to release it. Sure it's not perfect yet, but there is something to be said for being bold enough to take that first step and introducing something so different that there was no way of telling if it would make or break the company (especially after another risk flopped so badly - cough - virtual boy). Besides, most of the negative reviews I hear about the Wii now are about the motion control technology, itself. For many, the novelty has worn off, and people miss the regular old controller.
As for the new Mario and Metroid, I think it is about time the Wii started moving on some freaking games as they are playing this whole Wii sports and Wii fit thing to death. We got it, you can use the wiimote and the nunchuck to feel like you are really bowling or golfing. We can now play Twilight Princess and the Metroid Prime series OVER and feel like we are actually using a sword and a gun. Its my same gripe with the iPhone (which I own and am starting to become disgusted with) - we know there is a damned touch screen and flicking through pictures is cool, but for christs sake could you allow me to send pictures by text message and do all the other shit I expect from a phone these days!! It's almost like Nintendo is becoming so obsessed with creating games like Wiifit (game?) and Wii Sports so that they can keep shoving motion control technology down our throats. Whevever people start to complain, they toss out some retooled Game Cube game to hold us over. I would much rather get a new Zelda/Mario/Metroid game with an original plot for the Atari than hear about another remake - what's next the Sims for Wii that lets you actually feel like you are putting a turkey in the oven?
Coffee-fueled rant is now over.

I think so but then again I wasn't that impressed with MS. Sony and Nintendo did have some great titles and surprises. I don't care that everyone is doing the motion controller kinda annoying... I mean I like the tech and demonstrations but still...

Re: Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
I bought a Wii to use motion controls.
I thought like when people play Assassin Creed/Bioshock
in HD , I will play in SD but using the controllers as my sword
and shield or drink the magic potion, how cool is that, who knew
that I will get Carnival Games and Hannah Montana.
While I think Zelda/Mario and other Nintendo games are great
how much Mario and Zelda can we play? Stop it already, we already have
a Wii Metroid , Zelda, and Mario. When was the Last time Nintendo made
two Mario games for the same generation? What does this show? Is the
company out of ideas? I always thought Mario's game on each generation
is its master piece of that era, and you can see Mario being one of the best
things in each generation(except gamecube from what I hear).
I want to see new IPs really , something of adventure and mature. Enough puzzles and sport titles. More of the like NMH, Madworld, and Zak&Wiki . While 360 is continuing to be great console(damn RRoD), ps3 is catching up big time, Nintendo's novelty is dieing, lets not forget their system was least future proof with tiny storage space, SD graphics, and bad online gameplay mechanism . Is it time for a new HD Wii?

I stopped reading when he said Wii's "next gen rivals." I wasn't aware that PS4 and Xbox (3) were at E3. Huh, weird.

Re: Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
Who still cares about E3? Seriously, when was the last good E3? Maybe 3-5 years ago in my honest opinion. Every year it is the same deal. The only reason I even follow E3 anymore is to hope that my dreams of Sega coming back may actually be true each year. Then you read about the next were-hoged sword weilding Sonic and you want to find SOJ and SOA and just take a 32x to the back of each of their greedy little heads.
Not to mention Microsoft is a money whore trying to get back on top by humping Nintendo's leg for ideas now that they have seen everybody at Nintendo owns their own island, jet, and strip club. PS3 is the bastard child of the whole thing, seeing as Square and several devs have decided multiplatform is the best way to go. So while the PS2 and all of its exclusive producers ran off the PS3 is now stuck with its drunken abusive mother Sony as well as its wonderful if incestial cousins such as Guerilla, SCEA, and Naughty Dog. Sure its brothers and sisters are still dwindling about but they have moved on with others even though they still want to be friends (Square). I
Back on track, as far as the new Mario games, woot, its the same fucking games you had last time. You are getting SMW and Mario 64, as always with updated graphics and some stupid gimmick to warrant the new game. The new Metroid looks cool... but... its 3D. I gather Nintendo has heard all the cries for a return to the original style but I garuntee nobody really wanted it to be 3D in the way it is being imagined. I may be wrong on my understanding of the game, but what ever, I don't have a Wii, so I don't really care.
In the end though, E3 is as dull and boring as always to me, media hypes up, games get crushed down when they come out, even if they are good. I find it hard to get excited about new games anyway, its probably something I have experienced already in a new name and world, and while that works for some games others don't have that sort of feel. It's sort of like WW2 shooters, I've played a million and while they offer different locations and such, I still feel like i've wasted a good ammount of time on the same game.
If you have managed to read this far, I'm proud of you for hanging in there, and myself for writing something remotely comprehendable to somebody else.

Re: Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
Ryan, you're far too young to be a bitter old cynic.
When I watched the Nintendo press conference it was like I was a little kid again. There were so many announcements that got me to shout for joy. That Golden Sun DS video? Totally caught me by surprise. "Any objections, Lady?" I creamed myself. Mario Galaxy 2? Looks like a bunch of new enhancements to the original Mario Galaxy, and that isn't a bad thing.
I personally feel that Nintendo had the best press conference, but a lot of that is due to my tastes. The games being shown at the MS and Sony shows were sequels to games that I wasn't interested in, so I'm not interested in the sequels. And let's be honest. The Mario Galaxy, Golden Sun, Metroid trifecta was something that no one was expecting, especially since Nintendo got us to match up the new Mario rumor with New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Re: Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
I watched all the major conferences and I gotta say that Microsoft's was definitely the most interesting. The project Natal, while being really out there, was also really interesting. If it lives up to clear the incredible bar it has set for itself, I'd be pretty amazed. Also, the announcement that you'd be able to stream 1080p movies sounds almost too good to be true.
Nintendo didn't really introduce anything mind-blowing to me. The new Metroid looks pretty awesome, and it's really interesting that it's being developed by Team Ninja. But really, another Metroid and Mario game? Granted, it's their flagship franchises that make them the money, but the Wii is dying for some originality. And that vital sensor? Really?
Sony didn't really do much of anything. PSP Go looks ugly, and while the games coming out for it sound really good I don't think it'll be good enough to save the system. Too little, too late. I've owned a PSP since launch and there just isn't enough good games for it to be worthwhile. The best games seem to just be watered down remakes of PS2 titles. I admit Trico and GoW looked interesting, but I was expecting a lot more from Sony.
All in all, E3 was pretty disappointing. And I'm still stuck on whether to get the PS3 or 360. I like the games for the PS3 better, but Sony doesn't really seem like they know what they're doing anymore.

There's like some unwritten gamer law that everyone is supposed to be unimpressed with whatever Nintendo does now. Nevertheless, I think the Wii is growing to be a formidable hardcore gaming machine in addition to being the ultimate casual gaming machine. That is if the new XBox 360 features don't make that system the ultimate casual gaming machine- between the Facebook/Twitter matchup, the Netflix partnership with 1080p streaming video, the Natal and everything else they announced, the XBox 360 is looking like the all-in-one machine for your TV. The new Metroid preview looks fantastic and the 2.5 Mario game looks like a blast.
I don't know. Somehow I'm not jaded like a lot of you. I'm not euphoric on hype, but I think the future is looking good.

Re: Anyone else think this guy is crazy?
yeah... i guess... I know that I'll buy play and enjoy that 4 player mario, metroid, and galaxy 2. That said- none of it shocks me or really gets me too excited. I expect Nintendo to come out with another mario game. I expect more zelda starfox metroid- everything. They'll never stop with sequels to these games. What I want is innovation to the titles. I want to be as immersed in them as i was when i first played them way back on the nes. Galaxy did that for me. But Galaxy 2 is pretty much just more maps of the first game with some yoshis thrown in. I'm sure it'll be good, but i'm not excited.J T wrote:There's like some unwritten gamer law that everyone is supposed to be unimpressed with whatever Nintendo does now. Thing is, over the last 7 or so years now all i really expect from Nintendo is to repackage and rebrand. I don't see them making new and exciting properties. I see the same zelda I've played over and over again. The only zeldas I've been excited about since ocarina of time have been made by capcom. I'm really excited for this metroid and it is made by team ninja.
I guess what i'm saying is that- Nintendo showcased some good games, but when the wii came out Nintendo had the balls to do something different. Now I can't say the same from them. They made a revolutionary system that other companies are scrambling to at least slightly replicate and then they don't follow through with the same kind of revolutionary thinking when it comes to the games. Look- i've held the wii controller sideways before. In 1987. Does that mean it was bad then or now? no. Does it mean I still get excited by it? I don't.
