future rare system?
future rare system?
Does anyone else think the 20GB PS3 model will be considered rare in future? It was mostly shunned at launch because the 60GB had a few more features for $100 more and was discontinued less than a year later due to poor sales. Doing a quick ebay search of the models, the 20GB has around 30 systems on ebay while all other PS3 SKU's have hundreds. I have owned one since January and love the all black look of the system though I have seen only a single other 20GB user on Sony's forums.
Re: future rare system?
Maybe it'll become rare, but I doubt it'll be expensive. After all it's just a PS3 with a different hard drive.
Re: future rare system?
And with out PS2 capability.
I have a 20GB model, and I regret buying it for that reason. I was pumped to get a PS3 and didn't want to wait, so I figured I'd get the 20GB model for $100 cheaper then down the road pick up a hard drive for cheap and swap it in (if needed). Now I regret it. 100 extra dollars and I could have been able to put my PS2 in my other game room, and not have to worry about a small hard drive.

I like the backward-compatible PS3's 20 GB and 60 GB systems are the best I could store my PS2 away...

Re: future rare system?
honestly, i dont think these will be rare, most systems now a days arent hard to find simply because gaming is so much bigger than it used to be, and with very few outside developers making systems, i dont know of any that will be rare...ngage anyone?
Re: future rare system?
ngage and gizmondo perhaps those sorts of systems but any kind of ps3 that isn't a limited edition like the yakuza model (not even necessarily the MGS systems are or will be rare) most systems will end up rare though at some point as theyre destroyed/thrown away and die etc. it may take awhile but it will happen 360 will end up rare from all the RROD

It's possible it will become rare. Just like the original DS Web Browser will probably be. But you are definitely right about one thing: look for things that are released, then quickly discontinued, they will most likely become rare.

Depends whether you mean "rare" by collector standards, or "rare" by eBay standards.
If it's the latter (and you're obviously out for profit), then no.

Actually, I do this think is a possibility. I've had problems with mine, I have two friends who've had to repair their systems a number of times, and I've even read about consoles that RR out of the box. Take the fat PS2, for example. It had several issues, much less than the 360, seemingly, and finding a decent one in working shape is already becoming more difficult. Just imagine how hard it will be to find a working 360 just 5 years from now...otaku wrote: it may take awhile but it will happen 360 will end up rare from all the RROD

The way I see it, there are two ways to put it. Rare, and uncommon. Rare is something that's hard to find, and in high demand. Such as a NIB copy of Radiant Silvergun or something. Uncommon is something that is hard to find, but in low demand. Say, a Magnavox Odyssey 2.
