I was just about to head out to partake in GameStop's Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. I really wanted to get Mirror's Edge, but it was the only $25 game I wanted, so I just had to take a pass. I decided instead that I'd get Street Fighter IV ($55), Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe ($50) and Resistance 2 ($50).
Well, before I left to go back and pick up said titles, I decided to give the vgpc.com a good workout, and check out what I found...
Buying at GameStop
SFIV - $55
R2 - $50
MKvDC - Free
Tax - 8%
Total - $113
Ordering at Amazon
SFIV - $37
R2 - $30
MKvDC - $27
Shipping - $2.95 per game
Total - $103
Even with the B2G1 Free special, I'll still save money by ordering online, plus I don't have to feel restricted into getting titles of the same dollar range. The only reason I ever did shop at Gamestop was for their B2G1 Free specials, but now this makes me look at that in a different light.
Does GameStop charge too much when this happens?
Re: Does GameStop charge too much when this happens?
Whenever I buy books or music CD's I use Amazon. It's just so cheap. I never knew they had these types of prices on games. I might buy from the nnext time.

I have noticed that GS seems to raise the price a little before these "awesome" sales start and their used prices aren't great to begin with. I absolutely hate shopping at the couple that are close to me so I have been just trying to buy stuff here or eBay.
I saw a Play N Trade close to my work the other day, I need to check that out on Monday.

I used to not understand why used games at gamestop were only $5 less than the "new" ones... now I realized that there are no real "new" games there. So technically all of their used game prices are way to high.
But, there is a gamestop near me that is at least 30 min away from any other GameStop (gasp!) and it has better used prices (on the older systems not new ones) than the others since it has to bring people in someway.

Like most other retail shops....when they do buy 2 get 1 free they jack up the prices way up.

Game Crazy rocks. Most of the games I mention in the "Finds of the Day" thread came from there. The PS2 prices get so low over there. The customer service in my area (Seattle) has been great too. At my favorite location, they always de-buff the scratchy used discs free-of-charge, even when I'm buying their 2 games for $5 dollar specials. At another location, the guy working there found out I wanted a copy of ICO, called around, found one at another Game Crazy for $7 dollars, had it delivered to the location nearest me since it was about a 40 minute drive away, and promptly called me when it was in. There was no extra cost for that. I was very impressed.loganm187 wrote:Man gamestops used game prices are ridiculous.i work at a game crazy that is right down the street from a gamestop and all day i have people come in and tell me about how everything is atleast 5 dollars cheaper and its true!if you have a gamecrazy i would go there.

I have ended up doing most of my game buying with Amazon. They have been consistent with have having lower prices for many new games and are usually first to cut prices on older games. I'm already an Amazon Prime member to so I can get my purchases fast as well. I've grown tried of Gamestop screwing me over with prices.

Can someone explain the deal with Prime? God knows I've been offered it a lot, but I wanna know what I'm getting myself into.
