I captured all the fiends, and started battling the "hidden" bosses, where exceeding max damage is necessary.

The perfect example of this is the hidden areas you find for the airship, I don't think the coordinates are listed anywhere in the game I've found a couple simple by randomly pressing x a bunch but still so annoying

If you learn to read the al bhed language (Not sure on the spelling, its been a few years), you can find some "hidden" artifacts that tell you the locations.
