Is there a way to play playstation 1 backups on your playstation 2 using the swap magic discs?
I forgot to add I know you need the breaker pro or gameshark but how to use it without that. Something like converting the image or something

I'm pretty sure you cant. A year ago, when I had a working PS2, I studied into all the piracy options, and basically, the only way to play PS1 backups was to use breaker pro, or the gameshark or other swap tricks. I was sad to see that my PSXTreme boot disc doesn't work on ps2. It only plays the ps1 backups on a real ps1.

I was trying to remember things and something just light up...
I remember when Shadow of the Colosus came out after I finished it I wanted to play ICO to understand a little the plot. And I remember there were instructions on how to play ICO since ICO is not a DVD its a CD. The problem is I dont remember how I did it
.
But i had to change the Iso with a program and burn it to a DVD.

What was the reason for having a PS1 again
I vaguely recall asking here if a chipped PS2 would be ok (or better) than a chipped PS1 (or other method, like boot disk?) for playing PS1 games.
My motivation for asking this is twofold: apparently that some PS1 games actually have better graphics running on the PS2, and further the obvious reason of one less hardware system to "cater" for with cables, controllers etc.
I think I was advised to get the "real thing" for some reason related with running CD-Rs in the PS2 drive not being very good.
Can the experts refresh my memory?
Ivo.

Swapmagic comes with a CD version and DVD version (at least mine did), so for playing ICO, it works fine. I also have used the CD version to play those Maximus games, which are decent. As far as playing PSone games on PS2 w/ Swap Magic, that won't work. There's another disk called Breaker Pro that will work, albeit not very well. I got it because I was afraid to chip my PS2, but it didn't work well at all. Some games won't start, some start but have control problems (Bushido Blade 2), etc. I ended up getting a PSone and chipping it, and that works great. Maybe in the future I'll man up and chip the PS2 proper, but until then, the PSone is working great.
Well the time is aboot right to chip the PS2, Ive had mine for over a year, no problems with the backups of any kind.rattboi wrote:Swapmagic comes with a CD version and DVD version (at least mine did), so for playing ICO, it works fine. Ivo PMed me but there's no need to keep my response hidden. It's safe.
Yes, Swap Magic comes with a CD as well as DVD. ICO should have worked with it.
PS1 games SOMETIMES look better on a PS2, and that's if you manually flip the settings on in the BIOS at every single god damn boot up. No idea why PS2s never keep those settings. But in my experience, if you flip on those settings (texture filtering and faster cd access) half the games get issues from them. But some games are actually much better on PS2, like Chrono Cross. When I saw it on PS2, I immediately noticed that the battles frame rate was twice or thrice as fast, whereas on PS1 it drops to like 5fps during heavy spells. Very impressive.
Now in regards to whether Breaker Pro works well on a PS2, I wouldn't know. This is the best PS1 boot disc.

If it is anything like my PSXTreme boot disc, or the general swap trick, it's going to have a couple flaws:
1) Some games will have odd issues with it. Arc the Lad 1 randomly locks up during battles. Suikoden 2 will have trouble flawing FMVs and will lock up during the first boss. These problems were cured for me when I got a mod chip.
2) The games which have multiple discs and DO NOT let you save when the disc change occurs, are going to require a blind manual swap trick at that point. Games like Metal Gear Solid and Parasite Eve 2 and Chrono Cross. The manual swap trick becomes harder with the later models of PS1. But I have done it with even the final model tiny PSOne, so it CAN be done. It's just hard and you need to study into the method.
I simply suggest a mod chip if you have ANY soldering experience. Its an easy chip.
