PSX Boot Disc; who has used them?

Post by ACardAttack »

I was looking into a PSX boot disc, it sounds nice and from the directions it sounds like its not quite like the swap disc technique. Install the spring, the cover never closes and put in the boot disc...run the system the boot disc starts up, then stops and says insert disc and go from there. So has anyone used this...how much wear and tear does this put on a system...I want to say it sounds like not too much (at least compared to normal swap disc), but I could be wrong....anyone know?

Thanks

uh, it's pretty much like a swap magic, but fo the psx and ps1 you need a spring to have the switch down.

the good one's should let you swap burns per swap magic on a ps2.

i used to use a ps1 gameshark disc to play burned ps1 games on my ps2.

they are not really worth it, it uses the TOC data from the swap disc (this will mess with older games that used CDDA for the music) and it's no better than the swap trick ( http://superpope.planets.gamespy.com/co ... apfaq.html ) you'd be better off with a modchip (i have some for sale here http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 22&t=12043 i even have premodded PS1 systems if you don't want to bother with the install)

I use a Breaker Pro for my psone and it has always served me well, but like snowkitty says they are a pain in the ass. I am thinking about ordering a modchip from him, especially with the Policenauts translation almost finished!!!

What Kitty said. Prepare to have no music in your early PS1 era games like Twisted Metal.

Ya dude, 1 bug to go!!! It only has to do with emulators, which makes me upset that they don't just release it for people who plan on playing on actual hardware. I'm so excited!

I just used a piece of cardboard jammed in the lid and the swap trick for a year or 2. it got annoying and caused lots of problems on multi-disc games so after corrupting a couple of savegames I had my brother install a mod chip. They make easy-to-use 6 wire ones now that someone could install in 5 minutes.
Also, haven't checked up on it in awhile - Sweet!

PSX games are so cheap now that there is little reason not to use an original game disk!
