What consoles do you think are the MOST and LEAST attractive from purely a looks/physical design standpoint?
My 10 best looking:
1. Neo Geo Cart system (always thought it looked so sleak and high end)
2. Genesis with original Sega CD underneath (just screamed powerful system at the time)
3. Saturn (the second round button version we got here, the first version wasn't as sleak, I like both American release and all the Japanese colors)
4. Playstation (it was a very slim compared to other machines w/ CD drives of the time)
5. Super Famicom (we got hosed w/ our SNES design)
6. PSP (the thing makes me feel like I'm in the future)
7. Turbo Duo (chip and CD in one, looked so cool)
8. Atari VCS (gotta love w/ or w/o wood grain, also how PS2 used that same black plastic ridges look)
9. Sega Master System (original version, same as turbo duo w/ the chip and cart together looking cool)
10. DS Lite (huge upgrade from DS one of the ugliest)
*Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, Wii, PcEngine, TG16, GBA SP, Jag/JagCD, Neo Geo CD, Panasonic 3DO, SMS2, Xbox 360, NeoGeo Pocket/Color, Turbo Express and NES are a few of the systems I think look really cool but didn't quite make top 10
My 10 worst looking:
1. Famicom (I love it for nostalgia/collection purposes but this thing was UGLY, cream and maroon!?)
2. 32X (Stick a giant mushroom on your beautiful Genesis/Megadrive)
3. Nintendo 64 (I can't exactly pin down why this thing seems so ugly to me)
4. SNES (so awesome, yet so ugly. Huge purple switches? and the best part, after a year or two you get a system that's half yellow and half light gray!)
5. CDi (so plain and drab, just because you want it to be a home theatre component doesn't mean it has to look so boring)
6. XBox (if the US army ever needs more tanks they can strap some treads and missiles onto old Xbox)
7. Nintendo DS (it's not the size of the DS, it fits well in my hands, but the uninspired bulky look)
8. Sega Game Gear (see DS above)
9. Atari Lynx (the original version, the second version actually looked pretty cool)
10. 3DO by Goldstar (From a name like Goldstar are you surprised it's ugly?)
I know I'm leaving out countless ugly and cool looking pre 8-bit systems but I know this board seems pretty into 8-bit to present.
Ugliest AND coolest looking consoles?
i think the american SNES is ugly compared to the super famicom the original xbox isn't very good looking either and the PS3 looks more like a grill than a console lol that's ust my opinion on a few of em

Yeah...the grill look just annoys me. I can look at some of the goofier consoles of old, and just accept the fact that they resemble a toy, but the PS3 is just...well I still can't figure out what the hell it's supposed to be.SnowKitty wrote:i think the american SNES is ugly compared to the super famicom the original xbox isn't very good looking either and the PS3 looks more like a grill than a console lol that's ust my opinion on a few of em
Xbox is alright. "HUEG" jokes aside, it does have kind of a cool look, sorta like Sega's older style, but more flamboyant.

the famicom was passable as far as looks go but the controllers on it were hardwired and too short to really be usable unleess you sit like 2 feet away from the TV

PS3 looks
I haven't actually seen a PS3 in person (i'm not really interested in any of the games) but now that you mention it, it does kind of look like a grill with that top part as the lid haha. The first time I saw a Famicom I was in ninth grade ('93) and my friend from Taiwan had one, I thought "This thing looks like it's made in the same factory as easy bake ovens".

I love the purple cube, then prolly the NES, then atomic GBC. The Saturn model 2 is pretty nice looking too.
Also, you thought the toilet seat was even slightly cool looking? How anyone could think the jaguar+Jaguar CD looked cool is beyond me...
Then again, you think the original DS was one of the ugliest console of all time, so we obviously have very different tastes.
As with the Jaguar+CD, I'd have to say the ugliest consoles I've ever seen would be XBOX, SNES, PS3, PS2 (Fatty), PSone/PS, and the PSP, in no specific order. Now, I know everyone is going to think I'm crazy for saying the PSP, but considering the fact that it's a grease and scratch magnet, most of them look ugly. Considering they only look good on the TV, ya, that doesn't rate very high with me...Also, I would say the DS Lite is quite the grease magent, but that's only on the outside of the unit. Considering I'm usually looking at the inside, that's what I would use to judge it since it makes sense to judge it in use and not when it's laying on your bed or something.
