What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Two Miyazaki films, My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Both excellent.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Finally got around to finishing Children of the Damned, which I started watching last Thursday. It..well, it wasn't very good. It was predictable, went for a cheap moral in the ending, and much of the acting made me cringe, especially the blond woman running around. In general this movie didn't live up to its predecessor, and I think most folks should just avoid it.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I think I'll start posting regularly in this thread too...
In the past week I've seen:
Terminator Salvation - Ok for what it was. Fairly dissimilar from the other Terminator films in terms of plot (which is a good thing), but the visuals are certainly on par with the rest of the series. A fun popcorn flick, but nothing very memorable here.
Grade: 2.5/5
The Terminator/ Terminator 2/ Terminator 3 - I rewatched these in preparation for Salvation, and don't have much to say about them that hasn't been written a thousand times elsewhere. No one can do action film pacing quite like Cameron.
Grades: T1: 3/5 T2: 4/5 T3: 2.5/5
Before the Devil Knows Your Dead - I really enjoyed this, although the ending left something to be desired. The acting is fantastic, and I seem to appreciate Philip Seymour Hoffman more and more each time I see him in a new film. Albert Finney is fantastic as well, and his performance here stands out. Can;t say the same for Ethan Hawke, though. A good argument can be made that it's Lumet's best since Network, although it isn't as good as that classic.
Grade: 4/5
Kung-Fu Panda - I actually liked this more than I thought I would, and the slapstick stuff was good for a laugh. Dreamworks has a long way to go to catch Pixar in terms of impressive visuals/ captivating story, though.
Grade: 2.5/5
The Incredible Hulk - I know I am in the minority, but I really enjoyed Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk film and was disappointed with the direction that this one took in terms of plot, directing, acting - everything. Ed Norton is slumming here, and the visuals were less impressive than many of the more recent, better comic book films (Hellboy series, the most recent Batman films, Iron Man, etc.). maybe if I read Hulk comic books I would have enjoyed it more?
Grade: 2/5
88 Minutes - The build up is much better than the payoff, and the film is at its best when Pacino is talking to someone who isn't on the other end of his cell phone. A forgettable film, really - but Pacino can breathe life into almost any plot.
Grade: 3/5

Onechanbara - and I feel dirty for watching it alone. It is a mindless action kungfu flick with zombies and a pretty Asian girl as the lead. You dont watch it for the plot, but if you do it is as bad as a Resident Evil film.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
So I've started watching this, and this is the most faithful video game movie ever. The game is a mindless action kungfu game with zombies and a pretty girl as the lead.fast wrote:Onechanbara - and I feel dirty for watching it alone. Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I just watched the film adaptation of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Frankly, it sucked. The acting was often wooden, the script rushed in places, and by the time I felt the movie had finally gotten going, it was over halfway finished already. Folks, read the book, don't bother with this film.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
The set design in 451 was just awesome though. Worth watching the first half hour for that alone.
Popo I agree, it is the most faithful liveaction videogame movie, possibly of all time.
Last night I got through most of The Knight of Gamblers (God of Gamblers 2). Stephen Chow cheating at cards... Yes the Stephen Chow kick is strong and the 38 disc vcd set is only going to keep it that way.

It is very weak, its pretty faithful but gets boring real quick even though I love jap films to death.MrPopo wrote:So I've started watching this, and this is the most faithful video game movie ever. Saw Totoro a few months ago, its a lovely film. I recently watched The Cat Returns and can highly recommend it.jfrost wrote:Two Miyazaki films, My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Both excellent.
Hope someday if I have kids to be able to watch them all with them. My favorites are Howl's moving castle and Nausicaa.
