Just picked up Odin Sphere....
Well i picked it up at a pawn shop yesterday for 5 bucks, and I have to say for me being a "non-rpg" type of gamer, this game has blown my socks off. I sat down last night and played it for about 2 hours, and its a very submersive game. Everything about it from the soundtrack, the sprites, the menus everything. Now I don't care too much for the map system, that took me a little while to figure out, but other than that i have found a new game to spend some time with. Its weird but the two games that kept popping into my mind while playing it was Astal and Mischief makers, Odin Sphere reminds me of certain aspects of both of those games.

Re: Just picked up Odin Sphere....
I quickly fell out of love with Odin Sphere after about five hours of play. It sucks you in visually, but then you start to see it's limited scope. What could of been a great side-scrolling action RPG, is just little skirmishes sprinkled about. The levels look great, but they're just left to right (or right to left) with a handful of enemies each. Not to mention, the experience system is somewhat busted and boring. Planting seeds and growing food just slows the game down way too much.
It's a shame considering the game is a visual audio buffet. I downloaded high-res videos of the game just so I could at least see the cutscenes.

I agree a lot with Flak Beard. I played it for a few hours on my first and only time playing it, and the system was just too convoluted and crappy to keep me attracted. It wasn't long before I found myself with a crapload of items that were all completely useless, and no way to progress. I guess I probably wasn't playing it "right". The same thing also happened to me in Princess Crown.
Oboro Muramasa looks like it's simplified things and fixed the pacing problems, which have now been replaced by the much more glaring problem that the game is only available on the Wii. Kind of sucks that people can't just buy any game they want and be able to play it. Someday.

Who knows, it might be something you enjoy. $5 is a great price too. I think I paid $40 when I first got the game.kingdomheights777 wrote:Well don't you guys know how to burst bubbles lol. Yeah, and like I said, there's probably a "right" way to play it that makes it more...gooder.

Taken care of, folks. Back to normal.
Re: Just picked up Odin Sphere....
I really like Odin Sphere, but I too stopped playing it after hitting a point where it was clear that I needed to spend some time grinding. I battled the ice queen and the slow down got ridiculous, which made it take 40 minutes to fight her only to die because I realized I wasn't powered up enough to use the magic I would need to defeat her.
Nevertheless, I would have finished it out if I didn't have so many other great games pulling for my attention and so little time to play them all. I love the battle style. The controls are great. I agree that the seed planting got tedious, but there were times I liked it too. I loved the strategy of having to run out of the battle, plant some seeds, jump back into the frey, conserve my resources, then run off to harvest my supplies before they shriveled up. It made the fighting all the more challenging to have to also manage your crops while you're trying to fight off all the enemies.
All and all, it is a great game.
