Playstation Network Shmups?
I am having a hard time finding a list of Playstation Network Shmups, also which ones do you guys suggest.
Re: Playstation Network Shmups?
The only two SHMUPS on PSN that I know of are Soldner X (better value on the PC) and 1942: Joint Strike.
You can get the PC version (with Soundtrack) for $15.80 shipped here.

You forgot about R-Types and R-Type Delta.
If you get a Japanese PlayStation Network card, you'll have access to a treasure trove of PSN shmups. G Darius, Cotton Original, Cotton 100%, Raiden, Cho Aniki, Sonic Wings Special, Ray Storm, Ray Crisis, Belt Logger 9, Philosoma, Space Invaders, and a few other titles I can't make out because they're in Japanese.

There's also Astro Tripper and a load of dual analogue crap. Nothing to get excited about... xbla is a little more relevant for shooter fans - looking forward to the duality zf shooter btw...

I played the demo, this describes my feelings towards the game.Dakinggamer87 wrote: Also, kingdomheights777 Infamous is awesome picked it up today it rocks..
I was only listing original games, not PS1 Classics.the7k wrote:You forgot about R-Types and R-Type Delta.

Hey now, Everyday Shooter was awesome.bobbynewmarkiii wrote:There's also Astro Tripper and a load of dual analogue crap. Nothing to get excited about... xbla is a little more relevant for shooter fans - looking forward to the duality zf shooter btw...
If he is looking for exclusive shmups, I don't think XBLA will really help him - only XBLA shmups I know of that are worth it are Trigger Heart Excelica and Ikaruga, both of which are on the Dreamcast. (Of course, it's hard to argue with Aegis Wing, considering how expensive it is...)
Re: Playstation Network Shmups?
Would getting a Japanese Playstation Network Card work? I have the 60gb Playstation 3, and a Japanese network account setup on it. The thought of getting the card and delving into the shooter selection crossed my mind, but then I stopped because I assumed that region lockout would prevent them from playing on my system. Has anyone tried this to offer any confirmation either way? If it works then I will most definately pursue this to expand my shooter library. Thanks.
Re: Playstation Network Shmups?
Yes, it definitely works. I have a crap ton on Japanese PSX games on my American PS3.
Region-lockout only affects disc-based PSX games. If they are on your hard-drive, it won't matter. However, I have heard that PAL PSX games won't work on American PS3s regardless. I dunno if this is true or not, but its not like I can even try it. There still aren't any European PSN cards available, so the only way I'll be able to get Euro PSN games is to get a Euro credit card (yeah right), or get to know a Euro pal good enough that I can trust him to take command of my account and buy me a game with his credit card. (Equally unlikely.)

I made the mistake of getting Soldner X. It's a really shitty shooter. Spend that money on a decent PS2 or Saturn shooter.
