So why do you retro-game?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

So why do you retro-game?

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

I know most of you have that thing called nostalgia but being 15 my limit is the late PSone era. Lately though, I've been slowing down, guess I'm a little tired of games at the moment. But what motivates you to play old games and hunt down the old systems? Then again, that may be the reason in itself for you guys. I personally just like how dirt cheap they are (most of the time) and just the feeling of looking into the past of my favorite recreation.

Truthfully? I like collecting things. I also enjoy the nostalgia factor and I genuinely enjoy games. I have fun playing them, and I appreciate the art styles. I like finding stuff I missed or that I haven't played in years. And I like learning about them and seeing how a specific property, genre, console, or company has evolved over its life.

I just enjoy playing games, of all genres and ages. If a game's good, I'll play it. I don't really care about the ages so much, though I do take a great interest in gaming history. At the end of the day, I play games for fun, but I also adore collecting and learning about gaming history, as I do all history.
So I retro game 'cause its great fun.
I retro learn / collect cause I love the history and the details.

I like to collect older electronics and I like to play games, so it is kind of a balance. I like a lot of the older games more than the stuff that comes out today... much higher replay value. In modern games, once I beat it the game sits on the shelf for a long time.

I've pretty much enjoyed gaming since I was 5 and kept most of my gaming collection since then, so I guess you can say that it reminds me of my childhood.

Another thing is that there we so many great games I missed either because I couldn't get them at the time due to lack of funds or a store never had it in stock.

I just got back in to the Deception series and playing the second one reminds me of how many hours I spent playing it...

I love it!

Tired of the trend of cinematics over gameplay.
Tired of the handholding
I like 2D games better anyway

For me, I started at the NES, so some of it has been backfilling good titles for the consoles I own, and other parts of it is trying out all the stuff I missed out on due to the fact that I only got one console per generation.

Cus I'm a Sega whore, and getting a new Genesis or Saturn game in the mail makes my week. Also, I'm awful at 3D games. I just get confused lol.
Want:

Sega CD Games

I grew up in communist Poland where my only exposure to video games was a friend's ZX Spectrum computer (with the rubber keyboard - good times) and pictures in magazines from Western Europe. When I was 11 or 12 we moved to Malta, where there was a bigger choice for gaming. Unluckily I could not afford the price of cartridges (so once again, no Nintendo and no Sega) so I ended up with a Commodore Amiga 500 (which rocks BTW) and its rampant piracy. I did keep buying magazines about video games though and wished I could have a SNES (no loading times!).
Well, now I older, wiser (allegedly), richer (not by much) and I can finally afford to but the stuff I craved to play as a kid.
Hell, I even have a NEoGeo MVS, which I never even dreamed about having.
You hear that, Communism? A NeoGeo! In your face, Communism! In! Your! Face!!!

Plus I love the simpler games that you can have a bash on for a half hour every now and then without having to worry about loosing track of time. Which happens to me every time I boot up Fallout 3... (5a.m? 5 a.m?!? 5 A.M?!?!!!!???! Crap!)
Mostly harmless
