They are absolutely horrible on my PS2. Since battles are pretty frequent, they are pretty much game breaking for me. My PS2 is a real lemon though and it handles PS1 games particularly bad.
I found the opposite to be true. They were poor load times on the ps1, but if you set the ps2 disc speed option to fast (might not be called disc speed, but something similar), it was quite good, as was chrono trigger which also had poor load times on the ps1.
Those two games are arguably essential for an RPG fan, and the price it currently goes for is more than worth it.

I agree, the FFC and FFA packages are still a worthy investment. The PS2 makes the load times better, especially in Chrono Trigger. Not to mention, the prices of these compilations can't be beat.

Yeah. You need them if you plan on saving your PS1 games. You can copy PS1 saves to a PS2 card, but you can't directly make saves to a PS2 card.

Got around 70 bucks...and I'm either buying Infamous or a couple ps1 games(or ps2 i haven't decided.)

if I spend the 70 on ps1 games what should I buy next? I'll prolly pick up red dead revolver for ps2 either way.

I'll add another recommendation to the growing list: Silent Bomber. In terms of play control, this game was one of the standouts on the PS1. The graphics looked cheezy in the cutscenes and the story was just ok, but launching and detonating bombs as your primary methods made this a really unique action game. Silent Bomber was an absolute blast to play (no pun intended). As with many games from that era, the graphics and sound just don't hold up compared to modern games, but great gameplay is timeless and this game has it. Check it out.

Infamous will keep you busy for a lot less time than all those other games. And the older games are pretty good games as well.
