This is strange, but I'm actually excited for Ghostbusters

Post by J T »

Movie to videogame translations pretty much always suck. I know better than to expect anything good from them. The new Ghostbusters game looks like it might actually be enjoyable though. The writing is done by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. Plus Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson will all be doing voice work for the game as well. It's so rare to have any decent comedy in a videogame, but with these excellent writers and comedic actors... this thing could actually be good.

Let's all sing the song!!

Face it, that's the most memorable thing about the movie.

That or the puft dude.

Or the fact that they were the first to use the word "slime" as a verb.

Yeah I agree that this one might actually work well. Its great that they have the original cast and writters involved and another plus point is that the game doesnt have to tie in with the release of a film in the cinemas, giving the developers more time to get things right. I think this kills a lot of film licences - the film makers always want the game out by the day the film launches which cuts into the testing time. That and a general lack of imagination.

I hear that the PS3 has now got the first 6 months as an exclusive so it looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer to play it.

I think this is a great point, but not just because it gives them more time. I think because this is a new story being written specifically for a videogame means that they might potentially avoid the pitfalls of trying to retell the story of the movie, which rarely goes well because games are a different medium than movies, where stories are told in a different way. If this game goes well, it won't feel like it's trying to stuff itself into the movies narrative and will instead feel like you are the rookie interacting with these zany characters as you run around hunting ghosts.

This doesn't seem at all like a shovelware game that it's trying to sell because it has Ghostbusters in it. I will check it when it comes out as it seems a good game so far.

The constant chatter is very welcomed.

Actually, I think "You Can't Do That on Television" holds that honor. 1979, check it out:
