Gameshark Modclip #16156 for PSX, too good to be true?

Post by Jakk »

This seems like a much easier way to "mod" a PSX to play backups and imports, but this is the only website I can find it on, which makes me question its validity. It seems plausible to me that it's simply a matter of how old the PSX is, which reduces supply of mods for it. If anyone can verify that this does or does not work, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance.

I can back up the fact that the site is reliable so I would assume it works, I can't tell you for sure though.

I had one of those a few years ago. It works ok, but not great. You put in a real game and then you swap in a backup when it tells you too. Some games work better than others as a boot disk and some backups only like to be booted by certain games. FF7 seemed to work with pretty much everything though.

lol the so-called "plug-mod" it's just a bootleg gameshark with hacked caetla firmware that stops the CD motor for easier swapping. it works but older games that use CDDA for the music wont play the music right or at all. it does work fine for most other games though. but a real modchip is much better

i have the same kind of modchips that modchip.ca has (they are multimode 3, but modchip.ca calls em stealth elite i guess so they sell better or somehting lol) i can sell you a chip and i even do installs if you can't solder. check out my thread here:

Yeah, they work, but as said before, the compatibility isn't 100% like you would get from a modchip. You also have to have one of the old PSX with the expansion port on the back.

I used to have one that was identical to this 'back in the day' I've still got it... somewhere... They also act as a sort of gameshark/action replay device and they allowed you to run genuine imports without swapping the disc (well, mine did anyway).

I'd still go with a modchip since they are ridiculously easy to fit, even for a soldering novice.

Yeah I had one of these that was built into a VCD player back in the day. Worked great for the old PSX, and I played a lot of Street Fighter Alpha 3 with it (one of 2 or 3 backups I had).
