Lol I read this strip this morning and I had an irrational urge to go in and start telling Gabe and Tycho about all the other good games on the Genesis...
Fortunately, getting my genesis in Jan 96, using my NES up to that point, and using my 2600 through most of NES's prime, I was the kid who was always a generation behind. Hell, I still am today. It's the best. No console war nonsense, massive savings on systems and games, no bias, all fun, all the information to assist you in purchase decisions is bountiful.
I still had friends in the neighborhood who's parents bought them all the new stuff and they shared with me. My parents were convinced that video games would only make me a brain-dead idiot, and a loser with girls. They were right on both counts, but fuck them. VIDYA GAEMS!
Oh god, to be on the Sega side.... was always unpopular in school, even up through the Dreamcast days. I had about 3 years of good time ahead until Nintendo brought out the DS, then all I remember when they discontinued the DC, the Nintendo fans were laughing at me because "Sega went broke", as they claimed. I still cringe when I remember their unfounded insults.
They may have moved on to other pastures, but I can only grin bigger as my Sega Collection grows.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim
i could never fully understand why, but i always been on segas side, even when my parents got me a SNES with donkey kong country i always found my self playing Vectorman on my genesis instead. And i defenetly remember being jealous of my neighbors Sega Saturn when i had a PS1, weird, i know it is
I was on the Nintendo side as well. 'Tis a shame they only mentioned Sonic... Streets of Rage, Gunstar Heroes, Shinobi, Strider, Shining Force, Vectorman - So many games that were so much better than Sonic on the Genesis.
Even still, I'm glad I went with the SNES that gen.
