curlypaul is right, check out that article its a very indepth look at the options.
Here is my 2 cents though...
I currently prefer having a consolized MVS board, either a 1 slot or a 2 slot . When you get into the 4 to 6 slots you have buggy issues with them (from what i have heard numerous times). As everyone will say the MVS carts are much cheaper but don't be fooled for some of the really prime MVS GEMS on the system you will still fork out some serious dough (Neo Turf Masters, Metal slug collection, Garou MOTW, SVC CHAOS, etc).
I would suggest not buying any MVS games off of ebay, 90% of the games on ebay are what we would like to call "Boots" in the Neo community. Boots usually have graphical and sound issues, and are actually worth nothing. The best place to buy them is either from the Neo-geo.com forums or southtown-homebrew.com.
As for the the AES, I own this as well and I am happy that I own one just for collecting purposes. I purchased this 2 years before buying a consolized MVS 2 slot, But if I had it to do all over again, I would have saved my money. You can purchase the adapter that allows you to play MVS carts on the AES but as I have found out recently you have some combatibility issues with the adapter as well as "scaling" issues. Alot of the fighters on the Neo Geo would scale the screen bigger then smaller example being Samurai Show and King of Fighters. and with the adapter the sprites get distorted beyond recognition, until it goes back to normal size.

So in conclusion, I play my 2 slot 98% of the time, 99.9% of the games work on it, the carts are cheaper. The Aes is strictly a bragging rights machine. Find you an HD 4:3 tv with component hookups, get you a consolized 2 slot with Component hookups and you are ready to join the Neo Nazi's. 8)

I am, the JROK and PSU are already soldered up to the board. Now I'm just waiting for a big enough break in my schedule to take the cage up to Salem for blasting and powdercoating. It's torture, thank goodness I have my supergun to tide me over lol. I really like the decal on your 2-slot, but have no idea where I would get something like that made up.

Thee supergun is hooked up to my 1-slot, and I'm gonna lend it to a friend when I have this done. I'm just consolizing it for fun, and because I think a powdercoated 2-slot with those gold component jacks is ridiculously cool looking! I got really jealous looking at pics of yours and others on the neo forums.
