Neo Geo AES Help

Post by ArwingCmdr »

I am reasonably new to the world of SNK consoles. The only one I have experience with is the NGPC that I've had for about a year. So to the point:
What is a good price for an AES? I know they are expensive, but how much is too much?
Is eBay the best place, or do you guys know of somewhere better?
Is an AES worth it? (I know many do an MVS and an arcade cabinet but I don't have the room)
Importing a Neo Geo CD is a lot cheaper, but is that worth it? I have heard they have dreadfully slow loading times and aren't really much of an improvement on the AES.
With Sega Saturn nothing else matters!

ok here is the deal, if you want an AES, get a modded one with at least s-video on it. you won't regret it, it will also or should have the Unibios (gameshark type device). And you will be spending around 300 but no more than 400. And that of course should include at least 1 game and 1 controller.

If you want the cheaper route, then go with a consolized MVS with s video and component hookups. MVS carts are cheaper.

If i were you I would join the neo-geo.com forums and just search on the selling thread. There is always one of either of these on there for more than reasonable prices.

Wow, thanks for the pointers. I can tell from the quotes and such you have that you must be pretty into the SNK console scene. Do you have any AES game recommendations?

Neo geo games period i would say

Blazing Star
Neo Driftout
Neo Turfmasters
Bust a move again
Garou Mark of the wolves
Last Blade 2
Nightmare in the dark
Nam 75
Spin Master
Magical Drop 3
Metal Slug 1,3,X
Baseball Stars 2
Windjammers

thats it off the top of my head lol

all of these can be found on MVS, not all are on AES. if your not in the market for getting a consolized MVS, i would invest in the Super Converter 2 so you can play 99.9% of the MVS games on the AES. The only game i have seen in person that wouldn't run on my AES with the converter was Metal Slug 5. All 30 of my other MVS carts work fine, minus scaling issues on some.

I would like to add Samurai Shodown 2 and Winning Stakes 2 to list

Winning Stakes is not for everyone, but it is alot of fun.

I'm also a fan of Pulstar and Strikers 1945+. Also, to avoid confusion, Metal Slug X is Metal Slug 2 with some bug fixes, like a fix for a slowdown issue.
