Back when I picked up a PSX VCD player, I ordered "Run Lola Run" on VCD so I could rewatch it in widescreen. I think I still have it around here somewhere. Anyway - other than the double subtitles, I was happy with the quality (vs. VHS).
Time to dig for my old VCD!

Re: Best VCD Movies
although I love older stuff(Specially media) I really see no advantage to VCD
maybe I have the wrong idea, but it was basically VHS on CD it had no advantage really , maybe it was smaller in size but VHS is wider selection.
Doesn't current DVD players play VHS?
When you talk about Laser Disc, VHS, and other media it is unique on its own, but VCD is just a video file on a cd which is not anything special really.

Correction: MPEG1.Anapan wrote:If you have a CD burner, you can make VCDs from DVDs or video files. They're just MPEG2 files on a data track.
MPEG2 is SVCD.

Re: Best VCD Movies
You'll need a combo player for that, and most of those are rubbish. As for VCD's legacy well there was a machine called the CD-i and it was Philips' first and last venture into the world of gaming. Sure the CD-i format was incompatible with other VCD players at the time (afaik) but the format(s) did have its fanbase.kingmohd84 wrote:Doesn't current DVD players play VHS?

I've been ordering a lot of VCDs recently from Buyoyo.com. The Fortune Star Legendary Collection is where it's at. Lots of weird HK fantasy stuff. A few of the titles aren't offered on DVD, so the VCD is the obvious choice, and the titles that are available on both mediums, I'll still take the VCD. $19 HK vs $39 HK... I'm thinkin' money over quality.

I am not trying to make impressions
but if a movie was not sent over to DVD, given some really bad stuff was, is it even worth buying and watching in the first place?

Not for people who like all the mega budget hollywood crapfest movies Im sure. If you enjoyed the Transformers movie and think CGI is the shit then you wont miss anything that never made it to DVD im sure. On the other hand if you like obscure low budget sci-fi and fantasy films then there are tons not on dvd or that got super limited releases and now sell for too much money( Barbarian Queen 1 & 2)

You're argument is that of taste- it is a pointless argument.kingmohd84 wrote:I am not trying to make impressions

Example being, everything you watch on DVD isn't worth buying or watching.
No impressions made, just avoiding the endless argument.
