I wonder if this news will make Gamestop reconsider their plan to stop selling used PS2 games.

better library and to be fair it has a huge price advantage I mean games are cheaper than lunch out at a burger joint and on top of that the system is what 70-100 bucks of course its selling well

When will Sony recognize that the PS3 is overly complicated and ridiculously overpriced for it's market? Of course the curtailing of new PS2 releases is a really wise move for them given this info.....

Does anyone else see parallels of the downslide of Sega and the recent history of Sony (at least in the Playstation arena)?

I've been telling people for awhile that the PS3 is the Saturn of this generation.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Sony's current generation console is dying by the hand of their last gen console. If I may speak for all people for a moment (none of you mind, do you?)... people want the PS3, but they can't justify the high price tag purchase for themselves. One of the things that makes it so hard to justify is that PS2 games are soooo ridiculously cheap and PS3 games are expensive, so why invest in a new system that can't play your old games? Everyone has been screaming out "REVERSE COMPATIBILITY PLEASE!" for a long time now, and I think if people knew they could easily buy a reverse compatible system to play their old PS2 games on, then we would push past that barrier and get a PS3 so we would have the option to play PS1, PS2, and PS3 all on the same box, plus bluray. It's kind of silly of us, I know. Financially speaking, if we already own a PS2, it really shouldn't matter that much that our PS3 be reverse compatible-- we still drop the same hunk of cash. But, for some reason, it does matter, even if you've got the shelf space for it all. It's because we know it's possible, but not fully implemented. So we the people just keep waiting for the reverse compatibility and the inevitable price drop to come so that we can all become the screaming obnoxious PS3 fanboys we want to be.

To momentarily play devil's advocate, all models of the PS3 support PSone as the original Playstation processor is still included on every PS3 motherboard to officially make each system Playstation format compatible.

You took the words out of my mouth. I just spent $430.00 on a 60GB PS3. Not only does it smooth the jaggies, it upscales the image on most PS2 games. The PS2 is the most played system and I have over 150 games for it. So, for me BC is very important.

BC will only be important in a PS3 for me if any of the following conditions are met.
a) It can play backups.
b) It can play imports.
c) It can play online.

Otherwise, screw it. I have a PS2 that can play backups and imports, so unless the PS2-BC on PS3 can suddenly let me play my multitude of fighting games online with Kaillera, it isn't a big deal.
