The 5000 series PS2's were the first to support progressive scan for DVD's, no PS2's offer a progressive scan feature at the main system menu. Don't forget RGB doesn't mean progressive scan, it just means RGB and will continue to output at SD unless the game itself supports a higher resolution.
Oh, thanks for clearing that up :)

Anytime man, it's an insanely common mistake to make here in the states where we almost never see or hear of RGB.

P.S. - Do you have your PS2 hooked up in RGB mode? If so you're damn lucky as only a few sets in the US support the 'Sync on Green' RGB connection it outputs instead of normal RGB mostly they're just from Sony too (money grubbing bastards).

Never heard of that, what exactly does that do?
Some games support progressive scan but never mention it on the packaging, manual, or menus (for example Street Fighter Alpha Anthology), holding down triangle and square as the system and game boot up will give you a prompt asking if you would like to switch to progressive scan. All you have to do is say yes and you're all set; this requires you to hold down the buttons every time though as progressive scan settings are not saved, and to have your PS2 hooked up via component cables.
Wasn't it triange + cross? Does the prompt always appear? I get no prompt in FFXII.

Whoops, yeah it's triangle and cross. Also the game needs to be progressive scan compatible.

Misread the wikipedia list, FFXII only has widescreen and no progressive.
