Disgaea Component Video
I am currently playing Disgaea: Hour of Darkness on my PS2 with component video cables. However, the video looks terrible. I'm positive it's nowhere near component quality; it looks more like RF. I'm running a backup of the game with Swapmagic 3.6. Does this game even support component video?

Re: Disgaea Component Video
1) Is your TV an HDTV?
2) Is your PS2 in progressive scan mode?
3) If your answer to #2 is no, either hold down trangle and sqare as you boot up your PS2 all the way until the game starts, or find the progressive scan mode in the game's options menu. Keep in mind that not all PS2 games support progressive scan mode, or HD mode.
4) If the game doesn't support progressive scan mode then either suck it up and play it on the HDTV, or use an old SDTV CRT.
EDIT: Ckarified Post.

Re: Disgaea Component Video
I'll try that. Another thing I noticed is that codebreaker cheats don't work with this game. I tried loading my non-backup codebreaker v10 disk, with a few Disgaea cheats, then loaded my Swap Magic 3.6 disk, and from there swapped for my Disgaea backup, but it doesn't work. The cheats aren't active. What should I do?

Re: Disgaea Component Video
Some games support progressive scan but never mention it on the packaging, manual, or menus (for example Street Fighter Alpha Anthology), holding down triangle and square as the system and game boot up will give you a prompt asking if you would like to switch to progressive scan. All you have to do is say yes and you're all set; this requires you to hold down the buttons every time though as progressive scan settings are not saved, and to have your PS2 hooked up via component cables.enderfall wrote:Never heard of that, what exactly does that do?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:hold down trangle and sqare as you boot up your PS2 all the way until the game starts

Re: Disgaea Component Video
When I played through Disgaea, it was the only game that refused to display at all over component cables.
What I found out was that NIS actually programmed to render at 240p (like ps1 games),and assuming a SDTV will be forcing interlacing, thus converting it to 480i. PS1 didn't support component output, so it was never a problem. However, PS2 does, and the resolution is signaled over the component cables as 240p, which some HDTVs freak out about instead of converting to 480i.

Oh and if you have a 5001 model PS2 (like mine) you can just go into system options and change it to progressive scan.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Damn, beat me to it!RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Stop trying to cheat?lisalover1 wrote:I'll try that. Re: Disgaea Component Video
I've got one of those, and it allows you to choose between component or RGB output not progressive scan. The 5000 series PS2's were the first to support progressive scan for DVD's, no PS2's offer a progressive scan feature at the main system menu. Don't forget RGB doesn't mean progressive scan, it just means RGB and will continue to output at SD unless the game itself supports a higher resolution.
