I am very curious if the overheating is mostly because of poor placement. That said, I am not beyond putting a boxfan on it.
I took a coworkers 360 apart last night, it rrod. I figured Ive fixed enough consoles, 360 shouldnt be that hard. Well he smoked for sometime and guess why it overheated. If you guessed fans not spinning because of gunk, then you guessed right. Cleaned it out and it started working again. If they want to pay for the parts I will actually fix it - Im out of thermal paste and dont have the bit they say you need to replace the heatsinks.
good spot for xbox 360 ventilation? heres a pic
Re: good spot for xbox 360 ventilation? heres a pic
I have been anti-Intercooler ever since I got my first 360 and read the horror stories. However, they have a brand new one out now that attaches to the back, but has its own power adaptor, and does not involve any of the ports or power on the backside anymore. It is smaller and just has two strong fans that run whenever the system is hot, even if it is powered off. You guys heard anything about this new one good or bad? My current 360 was heating up on me and freezing some, so I decided to try one of these new ones, and it seems to be doing a decent job keeping it cooled off so far.
Was that the only problem with the old one was it took additional power from the power supply and sometimes melted to the 360, or are there any other concerns with these things?
