The game that made me realize why I barely play new games

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

well that's hardly fair. The Nights game was damn awful no doubt but there are plenty of fun new games out.

Sega has been shitting all over it's fan base and back catalog of great series for years and they seem to be ignorant or just indifferent to it. I might love Sega but their quality of games they have been releasing in the past few years has made me realize that the old Sega and the new are nothing alike.

I thought the main reason that SEGA sucked lately was that their new US pres. one-upped the Japan branch by convincing them to make their IP's mass marketable, and have yearly installments.

EDIT: Clarified my post.

Heh, actually, most of my friends are typos. =P I thought someone was going to jump on 'quick livid' before the he/she deal.

The first one is my favorite videogame of all time, as I've said many, many times, but I haven't played the second game at all simply because I don't want to be caught dead when one of those cutscenes are playing. I'm too old for it to be considered appropriate, and young enough that I still have a brother and parents in the house who call me an angsty teenager and then tease me for not following the rules of that character.

To be fair, from the little bit I've played Shining Force Feather is actually a pretty good installment in the series. Which is why they won't translate it.

man, just because there are crappy games you do not have to judge them all just because of this..try games like Super Mario Galaxy and you're gonna be pleased... And this gen has brought many awesome things even for retro gamers - for instance it's actually cheaper to buy used Xbox 360 and buy Ikaruga and Rez on it than buy these games on Dreamcast...and it has better graphics /well, it was already great/ and online multiplayer! Nothing compares to playing online multiplayer with my best friends living miles away!

and to think things like "new games are worse than old, they don't have soul, they're no fun" ...it's a bunch of bull...I even rembember reading these things in Nintendo Power Magazine when the N64 came out, so even these "good old games" on PSX, N64 and Saturn had been once "crappy-new-games-bring-me-the-old-ones"

So yes, there are bad games - and there have always been...But there are good games as well - and there will always be.
I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. First of all I just said I "barely play new games", I haven't completely sworn off my xbox 360 or wii. The complaints I had with Nights are problems I see duplicated in many current gen games, and it's gotten to the point where I just don't want to waste my time with any more of the game if these problems pop up right away. Another example is Assassin's Creed. I start the game up and am stuck with unskippable cut scenes, which is bad enough, but that game has one of the most god awful sci-fi channel-esque stories. It's like they took it from "videogame developer nerds' book of cliches". Then it's got one of those, "Welcome to the fun world of videogames! Let's learn about controllers!" Tutorials. Also unskippable. I managed through a bit of that game but eventually just gave up on it.

I have mario galaxy and it's great. It doesn't give into any of the lame gimmicks that 90% of new games do. I still haven't beat it yet which is one of the reasons I hardly feel bad when I give up on games like Nights or Assassin's Creed; I play games a couple hours a week at most, and so I can be pretty selective in what I stick with. It's not worth my time to sit through terrible cutscenes or tutorials for 3 year olds, even if what comes after is fun.

Honestly I just see this as a way to artificially pad the games' length, but all it does is piss people off in the end. I'd be happy with a shorter good game. (Sonic Team especially needs to figure this out. Give me a Sonic game the length of Sonic 1 and I'll spend $60 on it before I'll spend $60 on Vampire sonic and the quest for wizard whitebeard or whatever shit they've come up with now.
