Movie was awesome and I'm not a trek fan in the slightest, grew up with Star Wars but this movie was 200x better than the prequel trilogy(including episode III which I don't understand how people loved, joint was super ass)

Actually the movie might as well have been called Space Adventure or something like that because really there is nothing remotely related to Star Trek aside from the names on the characters.

I kinda agree. I really enjoyed the movie... but it wasn't Star Trek. They went full speed ahead into a totally different direction for the franchise, but they offered enough places for longtime fans (like me) to grab hold and come along without being left behind. Except... a lot of what made Star Trek Star Trek for me was left behind.

People lose attention really quickly on message boards, but if you really wanna hear my full take on the matter, I've written about it in two parts, Part 1 (the angry, pre-movie part) and Part 2 (the accepting, post-movie part). Yes, it's a shameless plug, but it's totally relevant.
