I'm with you mogzus. the only time I've felt blogs are valuable is if the person is sharing info about something you have info in. Kind of a cool way to link to things on the internet about a subject you enjoy you may not have known about. Kotaku or Sega specific blogs come to mind, but to me they might as well be news sites I guess.

Re: Don't follow me to twitter nor bother to join it!
I have nothing against twitter and blogging when it comes to pubic information. I love news/tech/knowledge blogs. But you should take them with a grain of salt, they aren't reputable sources.
But personal blogs/twitters? Come on, I don't sneak in your room to read you diary for a reason... cause I DON'T CAAARRREEEEE. All right the bulletins on facebook and myspace, tell me about your upcoming party, tell me how you changed your cell number, post me some funny hahas like that music video from youtube you found, I love it! I'm happy with that! I likes it a lots! You're on my friends list for a reason so I can hear about these upcoming events between us easily...
Tell me your taking a dump? Really??? I've declared that to my house before, but only so when the carbon-monoxide alarm goes off they know why.
But other then that... I can't have a discussion through that thing. WTF man? Here on forums that "pointless" stuff is all right, because it generates topics (like this topic here). That's fun.
Oh and about "offices" using twitter for "business things"... oh COME ON.
First usually offices don't allow you to use twitter or at least discourage that kind of stuff.
Second, for actual business related stuff, there are private tools out there for that, like pivotal or something, and it offers a LOT more then 140 characters of nonsense and can usually be updated by most PDA phones. Anyways, most companies don't want publicly discussing their projects to the God damn world!
That leaves stupid nonsense like "what are we gonna get for lunch"... that doesn't need to be public... send an email, use what ever in house communication already installed, or dare I say WALK TO THEIR DESK!

Even the most popular bloggers out there, especially in the gaming industry, seem to represent the worst aspects of the mainstream news media (spreading misinformation), only exacerbated to new levels. They don't work by any rules, besides meeting quotas, and so they just report absolutely anything or any idea as fact. It pisses me off so much. You can try to correct the bloggers in the comments section, but you'll never be noticed.gradualmeltdown wrote:I'm with you mogzus. the only time I've felt blogs are valuable is if the person is sharing info about something you have info in. Bloggers and Fox News have a lot in common, despite being bitter enemies.

Back at that business thing...
I do remote work for all kinds of people. And I would NEVER dare use something like twitter to update colleagues or customers about the state of the project. That'd be rude and unprofessional.
The current project I'm on we have several tools we use privately for that kind of stuff. We are on instanat messaging conferences and voice chat conferences, we have a svn log for project repos, we utilize project task managers to let each other know what needs to be done along with having a whole section dedicated to be a project wiki and allow access to documents on the web we need to share like design docs.
All of it private, with log in names, and encryption... because you guys... you guys can't look at it. That's why i signed a non-disclosure contract.
Twitter is public, and even more, undescriptive!

While you were aging, the world has added new tools.
I'm sure there were those that thought instant messaging stupid. (just send an email)
You can make twitter private. It can be helpful for some people. Don't speak so specifically. It makes you sound narrow minded.

1. no. thats a horrible use. why force a client to use crap technology when they have a phone, email, etc.? its no better than leaving a post-it-note on their door, knocking it, then running away.Lanfear wrote: 1) Internet Marketing, Talking to your clients.. Updating them on your projects , getting your name out there.
2) Office room help, What is everyone working on? Where are we going to lunch today? emails and forwards are too difficult.
3) Search twitter in real time, connect with people talking about neo geo, people talking about your favorite band.
2. how big is your lunch group? its too hard to email? or text message?
3. why limit your search to just twitter? google is your friend. like you really need to talk about your favorite band this very second?
twitter is the solution to a question nobody asked.
Re: Don't follow me to twitter nor bother to join it!
I can see a few things twitter would be useful for, but I still view it as text messaging. And since text messaging is just a form of email, I will just use email.
Now if you had an event and you needed a way to none specifically update the masses, I can see it being useful. Once everyone has a smart phone I can see it being even more useful. On the whole, it is less personal than an email and can be confusing as the dickens.
As for personal blogs, I use them as an easy way for me to keep in touch with friends (mostly college friends). We share stories, problems, and the like. Sure we could do mass emails, but it is just easier to use a blogging system. It doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for us. And yes, it really is just a public diary.
Regarding professional blogs…inst Racketboy technically one?
