You're missing the point. Rape isn't inherently sexist, but becomes so when the motivation for rape, as it nearly always is, is the drive for domination of women. If the rape were purely sexual, we might be able to toss it to sexual preference, but this isn't always the case. Many rapists seek to dominate and dehumanize their victims - sexist is one of the nicest things a person can call a rapist.
You're similarly missing the point with Dragon's Lair. Is Dragon's Lair inherently sexist? No. It's but one game telling a story. When we look at video games as a whole, however, we see a disproportionate picture where women are portrayed as weak and require the service of men to save them. If there was a sequel where Daphne saves Dirk, you might have a point. As it is, Dirk saves Daphne, Mario saves the princess (when's she's not gallivanting in another castle), and Link saves Zelda. The picture we see with videogames is disproportionately one sided. But then, the world we live in is one sided as well.
The most sexist videogame ever
Re: The most sexist videogame ever
I agree- and the whole bit of Japanese girls also having a rape fetish...NO- when they do, it's because of the generations of male influence that women are to be their sex slaves-literally
Ever hear of Japanese feminists?

Re: The most sexist videogame ever
^Dude no. Rape as fantasy is extremely common everywhere and more so in Asia. The motive is not important. In fact both male and female have rape fantasies (And yes, this includes being raped for both sexes) so I find hard to accept your reasonings.
And, unfortuatedly, feminist are not exactly heard in Japan.
@Crux
First of all I forgot to add a part about what you say for some reason. Basically One Damsel in Distress = No prblem, everyone is a damsel in distress = problem.
Unfortunatedly I do not understand your point on rape. I do not understand why what you're saying goes against what I said.

What is the archetype of medieval hero stories!?
Hero duels dragon to save princess.
This is a nuance on the long traditional story told for centuries. Mario, Dragon's Lair, most RPGs...
Especially "Dragon's Lair". That's the whole point of the game... it's a hoaky B animation of on of the oldest English tales of heroism. It's not sexist because its purpose is not to demoralize a certain gender. And just because multiple games start doing it doesn't perpetuate it to sexism. If I were to stark walking with a strut, and then my white friends started walking with a strut, and then their white friends started walking with a strut, and then tons of white men were walking with a strut... to say that "all white men walk with a strut" is called "pigeonholing". My point being if you're going to adhere to a set of rules denoting what is prejudicial then that set of rules prescribes to ALL INSTANCES. And to lay down a set of rules that ASSUMES a prejudicial nature upon a theme that was not intended to be prejudicial (which sexism is prejudicial) is asinine. You shouldn't "assume" what people meant and then castrate them for it. This is called "projection".
In psychology the act of projection is when you "project" your own ill intent, fears, or beliefs onto a subject in turn making it a reflection of your own opinion when in actuality it has nothing to do with YOU. For instance when the Christian churches project their "anti-christian" fears onto a set of novels called "Harry Potter", in turn making some people THINK "Harry Potter" is "anti-Christian" when that was NEVER the point of the story. And then we get book burnings of "Harry Potter" all over New England.
The mark up of something for the sake of sexism. That is sexist. A DOA game soulily about showing off big breasted women playing volley ball on the beach is in bad taste and a demoralization of what people expect a woman to look like physically. Just like the cover of every God Damn magazine at the check out line at my grocer. One of the purposes of these symbols is to influence the idea of what a specific gender "should" look like.
The story of a hero saving a princess trapped by a dragon/wizard/enemy is a long time story of heroism and dedication in love. This isn't sexist... this is ancient fucking literature! Yeah some undertones of the poor princess is in there... a counterpart to the state of the social understanding in the days the story was invented! But todays "intention" of having said slightly sexist undertone isn't for sexist reasons! It's because that is the story as it was recorded and to change it means its not the story any fucking more! So in turn the "intention" is not "sexist", and thusly is not sexist. Yes we were sexist bastards centuries ago... but when "Passion of Christ" or "Moses" is turned into a film, and some "sexist/prejudicial" material gets transposed to the film... do we call the film "prejudicial"? NO! The Bible is prejudicial, the film is just a mirror of that. The intention was to mimic the bible's story, the bible's intention was to be "prejudicial". My making said film does not make me a sexist bastard!
What are we going to do? Stop displaying this classic archetype of plots? What next? Stop the archetypical "Romeo & Juliet" love story, because Juliet is portrayed as a life servant of Romeo and is willing to kill herself upon his demise? My God. Yes please lets just destroy all Historical Literature for the sake of saving ourselves from having to witness minor reflections of our own internal fears. Because you know... it's for the pursuit of happiness, the world is supposed to be happy at alllll times. Because death, destruction and hatred shouldn't exist. Oh my I just can't wait until the day we are immortal and never have to deal with the stresses of NORMAL LIFE!
I dated a girl like that, my fucking God... thank God we broke up and some jack ass "happy mcSmile a lot" knocked her ass up. Now she's reeeeal happy with her abusive husband and two starving children. The world sucks, shut up, and literature is a wonderful reflection on how shitty the world is going to be... but glimpses of what true happiness can be obtained, yet fleeting, it is there.
Re: The most sexist videogame ever
Oh where the Jap. rape fetish came from: If you trace anything back far enough... with enough bias, you will probably find anything you want to be sexist.
Anyways, my gamer chick (whom I have been trying to get to play out a rape on me for years) and I always have the argument with DOA. She loves the game but often laughs at how "sexist" she considers it to be. I say, "its not sexist, its sexy"... look at the sexy guys with enormous chests and raging 12 packs.
As someone in this thread stated, she says "but the guys are ripped because they have to be to be good fighters... but I say that the girls are ripped as well, they just show physical fitness in their own feminine way. Girls simply can't get ripped and big like guys (without cheating) for the most part. They become more toned and have a more slim waste in comparison to their breasts... which are no less realistic than the male 80inch chests.
On the rape stuff I completely agree with the general

One of the reasons why most guys don’t complain about characters like Duke Nukem is because of how our minds work. At some point in almost every guys life, that guy has done something that seems to have been driven solely by testosterone. Jumping off of a cliff. Driving your car over 100 miles per hour. Getting into a fight. We do things like those to test ourselves, to find our limits. Some times we do things to pass those limits and feel like some kind of demi-god if only for a moment.
Characters like Duke take that to an extreme. Well we think about jumping 100 ft. cliffs or fighting one other person, the Duke jumps a 10,000 ft cliff well fighting a whole army of crazy mutants on the way down. He is just more of a part of something we already are. Something that isn’t even necessarily tried to sex.
If you’re a guy and don’t believe me go watch the movie 300 and afterword tell me that for just the slightest moment you didn’t want to yell “This is SPARTA” and kick some guy down a well.

You've got issues, buddy. Duke Nukem is a fucking joke of a man. That's why we love him. None of us look up to the Duke, or want to be like him. He's a comedic character.slag wrote:[OPINION]

I can't say anything about 300 as I never bothered to watch it. The trailers and video memes were enough.
Re: The most sexist videogame ever
When anything is considered a social behavior for men to act upon women or women to act upon men or women to women or men to men, it is sexist. A rapist is assuming a sexually violent role to force him/herself onto another and thus dominating the victim and in our society the man dominating the woman is the socially accepted role, thus it is sexist. I'm not talking about dom/sub relationships or circumstances outside of socially accepted roles, I'm talking about discriminating behavior that exists within the "normal rules" of society such as between men and women, between minorities and whites, etc. Rape can exist outside of our definition of sexism, but not often. Oh, and just because its a fantasy in Japan does not mean they believe that rape is not sexist or that it is "ok"- that's why I mentioned Japanese feminists- sure, they don't get nearly as much coverage as Americans, but that they have them now at all is a sign of an unsatisfied need.General_Norris wrote:^Dude no. And speaking of literature, the Wife of Bath from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales comes to mind....

Me, I have repelled off of a cliff. I have been in a car that hit 100. I have done some crazy stuff(and chickened out on some other stuff). Its something I assumed all guys did. Yes I realize that Duke is a comic characer because of his extreme nature. Nobody really wants to attempt to do those crazy things, but we like to think that maybe, just maybe, we could pull off something almost as cool/heroic/crazy. I don't think anybody picked up the Duke Nukem games solely for comedic value. Or the Halo games. Or Gears of War. We pick up those games because some part of us wants to be the gun toting man who saves the world even if its only in our minds.
