Why do guys never complain about the bare chested, muscle bound hero? It's not an accurate depiction of the average man. Why aren't more action heroes middle aged, overweight, and balding?
In actuality this isn't true.

It is my best friend and my biggest beef with videogames. Both the muscley hero and the big breasted 'hot' heroine.

We both are aspiring game designers... he's a 3d modeler at VV and I'm a programmer working for a start up company in Mass. And both of us have always innadvertently designed characters that did NOT match this general theme and upon realizing it figured it must have to do with our already known disgust in the "bulky man" and "sexy chic" theme.

I complain about this shit all the time. The middle-ground is so rarely shown. We always either have incredibly frail looking characters, of either gender, or we have Conan the Barbarians/Pamela Andersons. I like games like Silent Hill 1 where the lead is very obviously an average, kinda clumsy moderately helpless character. Every now and then I do love a big ridiculous meathead, as long as he and his game are basically a blatant parody.

The big difference between the hot and scantily-clad female and the Conan-style male is that the male has a functional change by being massively buff. He is stronger than the average man, faster, tougher. So it makes sense to us that he would be the hero. The female, on the other hand, is hot and scantily clad for the sole purpose of being eyecandy. It doesn't help her accomplish her tasks (aside from the possible seduction scenario).

Duke Nukem is a contender.

That got a ton of complaints too, I'll add.

Simple. Guys never complain because dudes don't care what other dudes look like. So I'm playing as a buff warrior character and killing hordes of goblins, street gangs, minotaurs...what have you. What do I care? I'm not going to try and fight armies of bad guys as a fat, old person. I'd die.

Fear Effect 2 was pretty sexy...mostly disturbing...but sexy. As for the sexist video game ever, I'm going to have to think on that one a bit.

That Virtual Families game just looks like the ultimate Sims rip-off.

I wouldn't call it sexist. The trailer shows the option of picking a male character as well - so it's not like the option to order him around the house isn't in there.

I dunno. I'm no sexist, but none of this bothers me in the slightest. In fact, it's pretty amusing. The only problem I have with sexist games is that they usually suck.

WARNING POLITICALLY INCORRECT REASONING AHEAD

Rape is not sexist. Why should it be? Raping is the act of frcing sexual intercourse on a non-willing person. Nothing sexist in that. Murder is not sexist. Genocide is not sexist. Genocide = killing lots of people. The only crime which can be considered "sexist" is sexism itself.

Imagine that some guy rapes a girl and then proceeds to rape a guy. As you can see rape doesn't have anything to do with sex (sex as in "I'm male").

I agree with Lordofduct. Let's talk about Dragon's Lair. Is the game sexist? The girl is ultrahot and must be saved because she's weak bla bla bla. No, it is not sexist. If you had the inverse situation and Daphne should rescue Dirk instead you would not think it's sexist. In fact it's sexist to think that one situation is sexist and the other is not.

If you think closely no game will ever be sexist unless you try hard as in "Girls must do laundry and not allowed to talk to anybody except their husbands!!!".

EDIT: About that rape simulator. The Japanese (and this very includes girls) have a fetish with rape. As long as they don't do it I fail to see why it's wrong. It's not worse than playing GTA.

About fanservicey characters. Well the sexist society be blamed. However I would like to note that you are not sexist for having sexy girls in a game, you are sexist if they exist solely to show boobs and not as a character. Also they fail plot-wise.
