go to rottentomatoes.com instead of metacritic. A lot more reviews are taken into account. And it would be really accurate if it weren't for that armond white douchebag giving negative reviews to every movie that is critically acclaimed (Iron Man, The Dark Knight)

It definitely has the flavor of a summer action flick, but there is plenty of tried and true ST flavor in there, too. It absolutely feels like it has a connection to the cannon, even while totally changing the story line. Give it a chance if you're doubting it.

I know this isn't exactly on topic, but my friend and I dressed up when we went to see this movie. I was Spock and she was Janice Rand (Kirk's yeomen from season one). I know the costumes aren't perfect, but they were homemade, so meh. We had fun.

PS for Trekkies: Both she and I were aware that the badge she's wearing wasn't brought in until Wrath of Khan and that it doesn't belong with her ToS style outfit. Her aunt wanted her to wear it, so she did for a few of the pictures.

Actually the movie might as well have been called Space Adventure or something like that because really there is nothing remotely related to Star Trek aside from the names on the characters.

"there is nothing remotely related to Star Trek aside from the names on the characters."

Which is pretty much what it takes to get a reasonable amount of viewers to go see a Star Trek movie.

Cool. Always wanted to cosplay but never figured which character I should go for.

I'm a long time Trek fan, and the new movie is brilliant in the way it deals with the mythology. It stays true to all the canon that has been established over the 4 series and 10 movies, and reboots in a way that gives them total freedom to do what they want to from here on out. But more than that, the script is smart, fast paced, and funny. It is a great way to spend two hours at the movies.

And for those of you knocking voyager, for the most part you are correct that it wasn't very good. However, they did have several great episodes. The episodes with the Hirogen were usually fantastic (the two part episode where they take over the ship and force the crew to participate in elaborate holodeck war games, like WWII is really good). And the two part episode "A Year In Hell", where they have to fight against a planet destroying time ship commanded by Red Forman (from That 70's Show) is really good.
