4 months, nothing to do, give me ideas!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Good luck when you get to real life dude.

I think it's unfair to assume he doesn't have a job.

I had a job all the way through uni. It was a bit shitty that quite a few people I knew were there just to waste time and to postpone having to get a fulltime job. The others we're just money sponges from their parents. I told myself, fuck them. I have a job, i'm putting myself through university, I'm paying for everything without handouts from my mother. I think I'm a much better person. I'm a better candidate for jobs because you always get the "dealing with stress and deadlines" question. I'm definitely going to look better on paper when I talk about handing in my uni work and juggling work deadlines at the same time whilst also excelling in both and finding time for my own endeavours amidst the chaos.

It's a little annoying to me when people say that students are just a waste of space or that they are leaching from the government/economy (since they don't pay taxes under a certain wage band in this country). It's especially annoying when people assume you don't work or are just leaching from government parents. Especially when I don't fit this stereotype.

The thing is, I never brought it up or rubbed it in anyone's faces or gushed about how I always had money or that they are going to fail at life when they finish uni because they are dependant sponges with no life skills outside of being able to find the cheapest drinks on student night. You know why? Because it doesn't matter, nothing anybody else does or the way they conduct their life matters to anyone but themselves.

So fucking what if somebody has nothing to do for four months. (I'm assuming) he's young and just wants to enjoy himself after working for 8 months. At least he's being open and trying to find something constructive to do with his time.

Shoot, I held the same job for three years in college, whether in school or out. The difference was only a max of 30 hours(when taking classes) versus a max of 40(when off for a semester, like summer). While my college was paid for by parents, I handled all of my bills and expenses. It helped build up some good habits on how to handle my debts.

Get a job, chief. If not because you need the money, get one for the experience.

Degree+Experience (even if it is just pushing a broom) looks so much better than Degree by itself. Job experience is never a bad thing to have, even if it is parttime for a field you never plan on returning to.

Other than that, read through Project Gutenberg.

I already had a summer job last year and while I like the money I hated it. This summer I'm going to kick back and do nothing for once, almost every summer I can remember I was doing some form of work (I know its not really work, but when you are 8-10 and have to play a sport everyday that you really dont want to, it was). This summer, I'm just going to kick back with my girlfriend, go to a couple concerts, and enjoy life. People are too uptight, too worried about the future, feels good to kick back and not worry.

Well yes, my parents do pay for my schooling, because I am still a minor, and therefore, still in there custody. Attempting to pay for things myself would be foolish haha.

There is nothing wrong with that. Hell, if I could do it again, I would have stayed under my parents roof a bit longer instead of trying to support myself and go to school one year after high school.

You should enjoy the down time, even if it does get boring. You'll miss it when it's gone.

How are you going to pay for doing things with your girlfriend like going to those concerts without a job?

Having a summer job doesn't mean you can't have a fun summer, it actually gives you the resources to be able to do things.

Sorry I didn't clarify, I still have most of the money from working last summer :)

4 months free time and you're wondering what to do? The possibilities are endless!

Think I would go rock climbing, kayaking, kiteboarding, probably some frisbee, bbqs, a few beach parties, tombstoning, then maybe some crazy multiplayer gaming with a bunch of friends. Not all in the same day of course, but pretty sure I could fill a month or two with all that :)
(GBA x4) + (MarioKart x4) = roadtrip heaven!
