Xbox Selective Disk Errors

Post by lisalover1 »

My original Xbox is getting unusually picky when I try to boot backups. I have both Evox and XBMC on my Xbox, with the original HDD. Before, I could run backups just fine; now I'm lucky if I can get them running at all. In evox, when I try to run a backup on a DVD, it recognizes the disk, but then it just goes to the "Evolution X" logo, then fades back to the menu. In XBMC, it recognizes the game, even the name of the game, but when I try to load it, it just brings me back to the Evox menu. This happened with several disks, and it's very annoying. The odd thing is, though, that my old backups that originally worked, still work, as well as an occasional new one. This error has been happening too many times for me to pass it off as a coincidence. what could be the problem?

Hey how ya doin!! Believe it or not I had this problem with our main Xbox that we use to watch Divx on the TV. Everyone loves my SkullBox LOL. Anyway I put a burn in one day and reset it for whatever reason and it booted. So I found out that my games would boot if I put in and estarted but would not boot from dashboard. I just figured it was something with the dash. Give it a shot.

No, that doesn't work. It just brings me to the Evox dashboard.

Could it be a change in media? Possibly a change in burn setting. Are you burning them at a faster rate, or even with a different drive?

I have been using different DVD-R mediums, but at least one backup of each medium has worked, so it's kind of confusing. I always burn everything at the lowest possible burning speed, so that shouldn't be a problem. I also use the same burner for everything.

Believe it or not but sometimes slow burning can cause problems. I always use 8x speed. Lower setting will cause a pause as easy as recording to fast. At least this has been what I have been told by the experts LOL.

Could it be that I was just unlucky enough to get a bunch of bad backups?

The best thing I can suggest you do is to do a copy of one of your existing working backups and see if it still works.

Okay, I'm very confused now. I just tried running a backup of House of the Dead 3. I tried 2 different downloads on 4 different DVD-R mediums, on two different burners. There were also responses to the downloads that said it works. Something's wrong here. Also, when I try to extract or view the contents of the ISO, Windows gives me an error saying the drive is not accessible, and that it is corrupted and unreadable.

EDIT: Now I'm just angry. I successfully extracted the HOTD3 iso, transfered it to my Xbox Hard Drive [There were 2 errors, saying the .xbx files in the main directory could not be transferred, but they were there anyway], and the game game me the exact same error. WHAT THE $*#& IS GOING ON?!?
