Dragon Quest VIII- does it get better?
Re: Dragon Quest VIII- does it get better?
DQ VIII requires a lot of patience, but will pay off and will be the adventure of a lifetime. I don't finish too many RPGs but DQ VIII was worth every minute of my time. However if you didn't like earlier installments this one will not change your mind. The protagonist may not say much, but I loved the other characters and were unforgetable. Its really a awesome game if you give it a chance.

I've put some time into it, and it is worth the minimal amount of grinding. I've enjoyed it up to the part I'm at, the part I almost always quit RPGs, the part where you get something to travel around the world. *sigh* I'm not the only one either. I've yet to actually get the thing that lets you travel around, but I'm on a quest to get it.
What does it say about the internet and social whatever that I can't talk about a game for fear of spoiling it for someone else.
In all honesty, I think the appeal of any dragon warrior is level up your characters. Oh and I always call them Dragon Warriors. Not that I hate the name Dragon Quest or anything, but I've known it as Warrior my whole life. Why change just because they wanted to switch back? Off topic sure, but at least I didn't mention that I'm playing Disgea right now and just ate pizza. Now that's off topic.

The same reason that it was called FFVII instead of FFIV when it was released in the US. You want to get things back in sync. The only real holdout in terms of big differences between the US and Japan in a current series is the Boxer, Claw, Dictator name swap in Street Fighter.randombullseye wrote:Why change just because they wanted to switch back?

I would think that having a single brand is much easier to market than two.

Once you get to somewhere where you can farm Metal Slimes the grinding is kinda enjoyable. Especially because they give out ridiculous amounts of experience. Once you have Angelo and Hero with metal slash (if you are using swords) it because much easier to kill them. Unless they get the first move you will almost always kill them (they only have 4HP and Metal Slash does at least 1HP damage against them, more often than not it's 2HP damage). I once had 4 metal slimes and managed to kill them all for nearly 6k experience. That's very rare though.
I definitely think it's worth playing, it's highly enjoyable, the story is great, the graphics are great and despite the steep difficulty curve at the beginning it's not terribly difficult and you won't really need to grind, it just makes it easier and you don't have to spend hours grinding. You just have to choose your moves wisely.

i actually wanted to know if it was worth it too. im up and down with the series. i like it and at the same time i find it boring. but i have a question about VII.....i bought it as a kid and decided it was really boring after getting to the first battle (took forever for me at the time) i got rid of it like a fool. and never thought of playing it agian. well recently i was playing DQM:joker and VIII and found them fun. they made me want to try the 100 hour game to keep me bussy. well i want to know if that game is worth it. sorry if im asking a different question on this topic just wanted to keep the board clean of clutter.
