GameStop to cease selling/trading GBA, GCN. and PS2.

Valid point. Well you know there were rumors of an Apple TV like gaming box in the past, maybe this space is for the Phantom?

This thread is blowing my little mind
I'm interested to see how much of this comes to fruition.

Yup, Zunes were in our distribution agreement with Microsoft when we signed on to sell 360 items.Ack wrote:Yeah, but I figured that was partly because they were already working with Microsoft for the Xbox.fast wrote:Remember they sold Zunes for awhile.

PSP 2 and the 360 redesign are expected to show up soon.Ack wrote:The Hell? Nobody's been announcing new hardware, at least as far as I know. Did I miss something? Can you give us any info? Some kind of console or handheld, or what?Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:The word from corporate is that we may see a completely new piece of hardware before the year is up as well.
EDIT: Thought this would clarify things a bit:
PSP 2 is mostly just corporate speculation but the 360 redesign's supposedly been in the works for quite some time.

Hope that doesn't mean I'm the only one still collecting GC games?
I just can't pull myself in spending $24 for a Mario Sports game but still want to complete my collection ...

When the Zune first launched, Software ETC use to carry them. Well before the 360. However a redesign of a console should not warrant an entire section of shelf space. Perhaps they are going to start carrying something bizarre like the GP2X. Thatll be the day, they would actually make me a customer again.

Uh sorry but the Zune launched in 06' a whole year after the 360's launch.fast wrote:When the Zune first launched, Software ETC use to carry them. Well before the 360. Don't forget that most of our stores floor space about 70% is literally just ads as well, don't forget that shelf space was once occupied by Used players guides, comic books, magazines, PC parts and hardware, DVD's, action figures, quality first party accessories, Xbox, CD's (at select locations), Imports, TCG games (Magic, WoW, Pokemon etc...), collectibles, and much more. Heck my store has SEVEN out of ten gondolas (those carts with shelves all over each GS) that are literally filled with cases of the same three display cases for games that are 'Coming Soon' like EA Active and High School Musical. So in the end don't think for a second that GS won't know what to do with ten or so extra feet of marketing space, sadly.
As for the GP2X there's no way we'd ever consider selling a machine with the express purpose of playing illegal copies of games on emulators. That's a major breach of contract with the companies whose games we've agreed to sell.

Re: GameStop to cease selling/trading GBA, GCN. and PS2.
That's funny, from what I read online the PSP Go! seems to be the one that's closer to reality. There been tons of rumors and reporting about it. And it's obvious Sony is gearing for a re-launch of sorts with the lineup they've already announced. But I've heard nothing of a new 360 even though that makes tons of sense...
A 360 redesign would be welcome. More storage packed in, quieter parts, less chance of it breaking down in the future, ... and maybe a bundle or other free XBLA game on the HDD?
Potentially addressing the reliability issue once and for all would be the big thing. As long as they have a $199 model (even without a hard drive, but preferably with), it would likely create a decent uptick in 360 sales from now through Xmas. I think there are a lot of people -- I've read their comments on this board and elsewhere -- who have not been willing to take a chance on the 360 because of it, even though they really want to play the games it offers.
