doc's ps1 wireless controllers

Post by nickfil »

Does anyone own a pair? How do you like them?

Image

I recently got a pair in a ps1 hardware lot. They were kinda half the reason i got the lot in the first place. I have the docs wireless controllers for the genesis and those work flawlessly for me, but i found the ps1 guys weren't so hot. The controller would light up like it was sending the signal, but the receiver sometimes wouldn't get it. It probably got about 7/10 buttons sent which makes it kinda unplayable.

Now- I can't imagine the tech for the wireless ps1 and the genesis were that different from each other. So I think I just got a worn out copy from ebay, but i wanted to check if anyone has the same problem with these pads before I try to pick up another one. One of the reasons I'm leaning to this 'worn out' conclusion is that the lot of stuff was untested and one of the two ps1 consoles didn't work.

thoughts?

Some of the IR LED's may be burnt out or damaged and in need of resoldering, which is an easy fix if you've got a Radio Shack nearby. Try testing them out on a PS2 or PS1 with controller ports you know work to be sure as well.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Thanks for the help, but it turns out the problem was so much simpler. Low batteries. I'll keep this in mind though if something similar goes wrong.

For anyone thinking of getting the controllers, i played some street fighter alpha 3 today and they worked great. No lag or missed buttons. However, if you are playing fighters i recommend a stick over these controllers (not that the d-pad is awful, sticks are just better)

I like the wireless factor, not liking the lack of analog sticks though. Nice find none the less.
