Mortal Kombat Gold on Dreamcast is like Mortal Kombat 4 2.0, it's the same game but with more characters and what not, and exclusive to the Dreamcast. So get that if you're a MK fan.

what games are you really into? No point in telling you fighters if you only play racing sims etc.

RPG's of just about every kind. FPS's are good but I especially like ones that have Multiplayer. Hack n' Slash games like Diablo are great fun(Especially with Multiplayer ). RTS games are good but I hear there aren't many. Adventure games are great(Second only to RPG's in the grand scheme of things). I rarely like fighting games. Rail shooters I only really like if theirs something unique to them(TotD and Rez). Alone in the Dark and Alone in the Dark 2 seem to be the only survival horror games I've ever liked. I don't like racing games. At all. 3D platformers seem rarely done right, while 2D platformers are usually pretty good(Super Mario Bros. 3, Astal, and Out of This World are good examples). Also, I am ashamed to say that I found Harvest Moon pretty addicting. But it's the only sim game I've ever played so I'm not sure if I like the genre or not. It's hard to tell from a single game.

That pretty much rounds it up for the genre aspect. However certain styles will turn me off/on a game pretty easily.

If it looks super unrealistically cutesy, I don't like it.
Realistically cutesy is OK.
If it looks like it came straight out of the 80's I get turned off(Jet Grind Radio is a good example).
If it looks like it came straight out of the 90's, I like it(Zombie Revenge is a good example).
Steampunk is sweet.
Cyberpunk is iffy.
Medieval themes are awesome(Fantasy medieval or realistic medieval, both are good).
Sci-Fi is good if done right(Sometimes people try to fuse Sci-Fi and an 80's theme ).
Fusing steampunk with Sci-Fi is usually good.

Unfortunately I know of no adapter that would let you use a regular PC keyboard on the dreamcast, as it uses the controller port. You can pick up keyboards for cheap from Amazon, $12 each for brand new ones (there's a company that's recently got into the business of Dreamcast accessories).

I am no dreamcast expert
but if you are not hardcore(like you will die if you didn't own Marvel vs Capcom 2 on dreamcast specifically) then I would suggest you get your hands on the rare games that are only playable on the dreamcast.

That is Shenmue, both Sonics, grandia 2 and so on.

I am not sure if fighting games(the thing dreamcast is famous for) is something you want, although they are great they are kind of pointless since superior fighting games exist today on current gen consoles.

When I want to play a game on a system I am always looking for what that system offers that nothing else will. For example, if I buy N64 I will play goldeneye and zelda but I won't play RE2 even if it is good on that system. There just a bunch of other ways to get it

@ kingmohd84: You can get both Sonic games on the Cube, and Grandia 2 on PS2 although the PS2 port did suck compared to the DC original.

Listen, I know you may have inhibitions about the aesthetic of Jet Set Radio, but honestly, I DEFINITELY recommend you buy a copy. I've picked one up for 3 bucks before; very much worthwhile. You might be put off initially by any number of things: the aesthetic (never heard of anyone being put off by the aesthetic before, but that seems to be your case), the initial difficulty (the opening levels feel a bit awkward for beginners, but I promise, once you get to the home stretch you will LOVE IT and promptly play through the whole game again once you finish), et cetera. But if you own a Dreamcast, you really do owe it to your little undead pal to pop Jet Set Radio in for a go.

Based on your list of games and your list of likes, however, here's a list of games you should consider:

Skies of Arcadia (Mix Lunar with Panzer Dragoon Saga and you've got this gem.)
Record of Lodoss War (Never played it, but it's up there with Gauntlet for great Dreamcast hack n' slashers)
Phantasy Star Online (I haven't messed with it too much since it's only half the game it used to be, essentially. But the gameplay is in the vein of a hack n' slash and I believe the offline mode is rather expansive. I'd do research on it, but you might enjoy it. Cyberpunk in a very cool way, I know that.)
Soul Calibur (I know you say you don't like fighting games, but I recommend you burn this one and give it a try)
Crazy Taxi (Probably not what you think it is. Mix Grand Theft Auto with OutRun and you're almost there.)
Omikron: The Nomad Soul (A quintessential adventure game - like a cyberpunk version of Morrowind, maybe. Definitely check it out, considering your tastes. Terrible graphics though, I'm afraid.)
Rayman 2 (3D platformer done right)
MDK 2 (3D platformer done very right. Given your tastes, I think you'd love it.)
Ecco the Dolphin: DOTF (Definitely worth checking out. The unique gameplay style seems to strike people as either utterly tailor-made for them or unplayable, yet admirable. Similar to Shenmue in that respect.)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (Great 3D platforming in a dark, gothic setting. Very cool.)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica (Might be worth a try, I dunno. You say you've only liked Alone in the Dark survival-horror titles, but many consider this to be one of the quintessential in the series. RE2, RE3, and Dino Crisis were all ported to the Dreamcast as well, so who knows. Might be worth a shot.)
Alone in the Dark: New Nightmare (I don't know anything about this one, but it's an Alone in the Dark title, so who could say?)
Armada (Neat-o Shmup-RPG hybrid. You never specified your views on shmups, but this is a fantastic one.)
Ikaruga (Since we're on the topic of shmups, here's the best one on the system, and as many would argue, on any system)
Cosmic Smash (An absolute must if you're okay with burning a copy. Doesn't really fit your criteria for a great game, but it's definitely one to check out. Same goes for Chu Chu Rocket!, Fur Fighters, Seaman, and The Typing of the Dead)
Unreal Tournament/Quake III: Arena (You say you love FPS titles with great multiplayer, and these are just that.)
Toy Commander (Already gushed about this one, but it's one of my very favorite Dreamcast games, but never gets any attention. So check this one out for good ol' Orgy's sake... Orgy was my nick-name on another message board, sorry.)

Oh, and don't be ashamed for liking Harvest Moon, dude. There's a reason that's been one of the strongest franchises in gaming for over 15 years!

As far as traditional RPGs are concerned, Skies of Arcadia is by far my favorite on the DC in terms of story, atmosphere, characters and overall scale (there's plenty to explore). You can't go wrong with Grandia II, either. I wouldn't put it above Arcadia but it does have one of the most innovative and enjoyable battle systems of any turn-based RPG I've played. Also, I've only played the demo but I guess Silver, a medieval action RPG, is supposed to be pretty decent. I also haven't played Record of Lodoss War but I've heard it's one of the best Diablo clones available.

The Dreamcast had a couple of fundamental (for the time) FPSes like Quake III: Arena and Unreal Tournament. And to my knowledge, finding a DC mouse and keyboard isn't too difficult or expensive but I'm not sure if it's still possible to play online anymore. There are lots of good non-first person shooters for the console, however. MDK2 is very difficult and an overall fantastic game. Fur Fighters (run and gun with stuffed animals) and Red Dog (drive around and blow up robots with a Panzer Dragoon style lock-on cannon) are some of them. It's not for everyone but Armada is also kind of fun. I guess it could be described as a cross between Asteroids and...um, Diablo? And if you like action-puzzle games, you should check out Chu Chu Rocket. If you don't mind playing arcade-style sports games, Virtua Tennis or its equally excellent sequel, Tennis 2K2, are definitely worth buying (they're inexpensive, too).

Unfortunately, if you're not a fan of fighting, racing, survival horror or 3D platformers, that pretty much rules out most the DC's best genres right there. I'd still highly recommend Sonic Adventure and Rayman 2 as they are both excellent. I'm not sure what you mean by "straight out of the '80s/'90s" but I think some of the DC's greatest gems might fall into those categories. Shenmue is actually set in 1986-1987; complete with jean jackets, cassette tapes, and 80's Yu Suzuki arcade games. Jet Grind Radio blends older crazes (graffiti art and rollerblading) into a modern package. Space Channel 5 has a funky retro future thing going on (but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone). Finally, Seaman isn't really retro; it's just damn weird. I recommend it.

i didn't know sonic adventures were on the gamecube
but as for grandia, the dreamcast version is the best so that makes a good reason to purchase the system
I haven't played evil twin but looks awesome
